Since Peter Bondra and Danny Briere cards have basically gone stale over the past couple years I've been in need of a new project. I thought about starting an Eric Staal collection since I've been a fan of his when he was drafted, but I just don't have the energy to start a collection of his since I'm 10 or 11 years behind the 8 ball. So I was sifting through my cards and noticed I had a lot of Hall of Famer autographs, and it hit me; maybe that should be my next project. Now I realize the older players who has been deceased for many years are impossible or just down right expensive. I just need something to rekindle the passion to collect again!! This seems like something I could literally chase for years to come. Maybe when my 6 month old son is a littler older I could get him involved as well? I'm curious to know if anyone has attempted a collection like this?

I love grabbing hard-signed HOF autos... obviously, there is a great selection of players to acquire.

The modern HOF players are easy to find but ITG products like Enshrined and older products assist in getting others. Cut autos are also an option as they've become more prevalent in recent years too.

Regardless, it's a fun project.

Can't go wrong with some HHOF autos. These Legends have some history behind them, so collecting a wide variety of players will be fun, and collecting autos from different years/sets will make your collection more visually appealing as well.

Also, on the flip side, if a certain player catches your eye along the way, maybe you can start another player collection?

Good luck with whatever you decide to go with :) Have fun !!

Hey John, I did this as a project many years ago. It was certainly fun and affordable for living HHOF'ers once I got past 99/4/66/9. They're even cheaper now. I used the HHOF's mail forwarding service to get a lot of players to sign. I'm not sure if they still do this, but before you could send autograph requests to players through the HHOF. They simply asked that you send them money for postage and recommend you include a SASE with your requests.

I say go for it. These guys are already recognized as legends of the game, so better to start a HOF auto PC rather than for example say picking a new rookie to collect. Can't go wrong with the legends

better make it easier on yourself

How about a relic or auto of every HOFer. that has been and still is my goal. You will find it next to impossible unless you have lottery type money of collecting just autos of some of the early HOFers, but relics remain available , not necessarily that affordable , but in the new ITG/Leaf release many of the relics can still be pack pulled!

wow what a great idea using relics as well!!! Now I'm really liking this idea as a piece of vezina or Adams memorabilia is cheaper to acquire. Now I need to make a list and see what I have :)

That's actually a really nice little addition to the idea. Grab some GU pieces for the harder/more expensive guys, until/if you are able to acquire and auto of said person.

If vintage is what you are looking for, how about starting to team collect every single of the defunct teams? Should be relatively limited amount of cards to collect and should have a lot of great players there.
