Slowly getting back into the hobby. Decided to focus on modern GAME USED & ROOKIE YEAR PATCH CARDS. I realize 05-06 Cup is what got me back into the hobby.

So,... Crosby and Ovy had autographed, game-used patch RCs in 05-06 Cup. I used to lust after the 05-06 Dual AU Shield Kovalchuk / Ovy #1/1, but held the card and saw that the Ovy Shield was actually Photoshoot.

All Cup RCs have been Photoshoot after 05-06 (Phaneuf #/99 in 05-06 was photoshoot along with all the #/199 RCs). So even neat cards like RC year shield cards were Photoshoot from 06-07 and after.

I understood UD's stance when they told me that RCs will hold their values be it Photoshoot or GU. They thought saving $ on GU RC stuff was a good decision for the majority. I agreed with them from a business standpoint.

I only keep The Cup for PC cards.

Now I'm thinking of what card could be a great cornerstone piece for my PC,... Any ideas would help! I am looking for a new card to hunt.

Scans/pics/source - even better! Looking forward to HI's thoughts. TIA :)
 
If you are dead set on only the Cup being your PC you could go for

-Rare Honorable numbers and dual honorable numbers /25 or less
-Property of's the stick nameplates all /1
-Emblems of endorsments /15
-scripted sticks or scrpited swatches /35 and /25
 
I think you are limiting yourself with The Cup.....I dont collect ITG....but have to admit..they make the best Game Used cards on the planet

I meant specifically, I am looking for a potential single card candidates for a defining cornerstone in my PC. If I can get a list, I can start hunting down for one. I am looking for one gigantic whale of a card ideally. But curious what that could be,... TIA!
 
if your looking for 1 card and you like the 05-06 the cup how about the 05-06 the cup crosby rc auto patch gold #erd 87/87?
 
An on card autograph rookie, or an on card autograph game used Gretzky patch would be it for me. Can't get much better than the great one, or an on card autograph rookie. I was thinking a Stamkos cup gold rookie /91 since you're looking to go big. His regular versions rarely appear. Or his SPA auto patch /100 if you're thinking in the $500 range. A Gretzky all-star on card autograph patch would be my thinking for a PC leader as well.
 
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the Jussi Jokinen, and Mikko Koivu 05/06 CUP ARP's also GU? If I remember correctly they were both redemptions and there was something to do with the memorabilia.
 
Are you looking for "game-used and rookie" card or "game-used or rookie" card? Because if it's the former then your choices are extremely limited. After 05/06 Crosby and Ovechkin I can only think of a few shields from that same year that are rookie cards and have game-used patches. If the card doesn't have to be a rookie card then that opens up all kinds of possibilties, most of which I'm not very familiar with though.

I personally think the Ice Premieres Autograph Patches /10 are the nicest cards out there. They are rare and not only seem to hold value, but go up in time.

You know, that is one card that has yet to surface anywhere yet. From my knowledge, that card has not been pulled yet.

GAME USED & RC. AU are optional to me as they're a dime a dozen now.

Oh, I forget there are shields from 05/06. Any ones you know of that are GU & RC Matt? Tks!


*Someone else reminded me of Stamkos RC's. Sadly, none of the RC year stuff is GU. Let me know if I am wrong pls.
 
Stephen, I don't know why you gave up your Nicolas Grossman collection. You were on fire the one year at the expo, everything you pulled was a Grossman redemption lol. I hope all is well with you.
Would a Gretzky shield card interest you?
 
How about this bad boy? One of the top cards made of all time in my mind. And yes they are both game-used rookie shields.

Yeah! I really like those #/10, but I'm quite sure they were all Photoshoot,... so dealbreaker right there for me. Tks for the idea though! :)

Hey Frank! OMG, I remembered the cases of SPA with N.Grossman. Good times! Gretzky shield is interesting, but I want 05-06 Cup.

Yes this card has been pulled. As you can see from the scan of the back both shields are game-used. Like I said earlier, one of the biggest cards ever made.

Nope. Ovechkin had hype coming into the NHL. He's proven he's the real deal (Mr. Big Deal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYrBoV74IJY). Always funny. However, now on a new wing, new coach, and enduring a slump, it's not good, but I'm sure he'll pull through. Can't keep talent like that down!

Ribero is having himself a heck of a shortened season though!

OK, that's very serious. Both GU Rookie Year Shield #1/1.

I'd give up 2x Crosby 3clr AU RC's for it if I still had them. I guess with those going for $25K (I've offered and no one's let one go), that must be a $50K+ card. At least I've got some new wallpaper now! :dance:

If you're in the hunt for the card, no worries. Is the seller looking for $50K+? I'd give that real consideration. Open 8 - 9 cases of 05-06 Cup now (I lost count after 20 6-tin cases), or have the best modern day card in existence?! :|
