This is odd to me

Beckett has Crosby, Ovy and McD Young Guns all price the same right now at
$2000 US.
The odd part for me is why is. McDavid the same as these two. Seems to me their
Accomplishments should gain them more dollars, no?
Trying to figure outBeckett is crazy to begin with I guess. I was looking at Lund qvist rookies and his YG is 6 times higher than Corey Perry yet his MVP rookie lags behind Perry’s, go figure.

Wow. I haven't looked at a Beckett in 8 years or so, so I knew I was behind. But I didn't think any of them would list at 2K.

Obviously, collectors dictate prices, but there are way fewer Crosbys and Ovechkins than McDavids. And odds are, all three will have similar outstanding careers.

The interest in the older cards are not there as the hype is still with the newer player.

Interest in the “old guys of hockey” are there for career accomplishments and hall of fame value. The interest in the “new guys of hockey” are always potential and a crapshoot when investing. The older guys have reached their potential to be superstars, stars, or semi-stars. Some have had great careers and others have not. The cycle is consistent every year, recycled and repeated. The player’s ability to stay healthy and productive on a consistent basis keeps the interest up.

Come Connor Bedard…McDavid is now the “old man” and his hype will only stay positive if he stays relatively healthy and consistent, make the playoffs and will spike getting to and winning the CUP. This goes witth other players as well (Matthews, Hughes bros, etc).

So, let us put your argument to the test. Lundqvist was one of the best goalies of his generation. He was a gem of a find and benefited from a series of incidental happenings (other goalies getting injured, the strike year, for example). What about Pavelski? 6th round pick, almost a point per game guy, long career? He get love? From the fabled 2003 class, too. Not really.

People can be picky. Beckett may just a representation of that. Crosby or Ovie getting another chance at the CUP will increase interest. McDavid is “this” generation’s Crosby (Gretzky).

If you look at the hockey hobby history…the boosts came during Crosby and McDavid. The industry is boosting Bedard to be the next pump for the hobby. The classes between each have been “meh” by initial talent potential.

I would say Matthews was a big boost too.
