As a hockey new guy I am not too familiar with the who's/who of the NHL ..yet. But I do remember his name from a year or so ago. I recall a lot of hype about him.

I checked Yahoo and Ebay. His stats seems to be below average and his card prices seem to be really low. He's what 21-22?

What are the boards thoughts on him as a player and his potential?

This guy has loads of skill and potential. If he was with one of the Canadian teams he would be getting alot more attention. Being in Anaheim doesnt help. If he gets moved, it might be good for him IMO. Lots of rumors of Burke bringing him to Toronto......

He has the potential to be a first line power forward.....Think Keith Tkachuk....He's a great player and has been great for the ducks this season.....Power forwards need some time to develop though.....

Took the words right out of my mouth. He's still filling out and learning how to properly use his frame to his advantage. Very talented and loads of potential.

The Ducks are playing it safe with him and bringing him along slowly. He was drafted 2nd behind Crosby. He was brought up earlier this season and has definitely shown flashes of why he was drafted second. Patience is the key with him....

He's playing on the 3rd or 4th line in Anaheim with guys like Parros and whatnot. He'll be good, just give him some time. He'll find his way up one day next to Getzlaf, and when he does... look out!

I think he's still got loads of potential.

If Brian Burke can bring him to Toronto, I bet you'll see a spike in his cards.

I hope that doesnt happen! I will be furious. Not only because the Ducks are my team but I collect Ryan and all my hard work on him would kinda go down the drain. But he has played quite well with the Ducks since being called up! His cards maybe cheap now but last year when they first came out they were far from cheap. I know!

10 points (4G, 6A) and +9 in 13 games is a bit better than below average.

he's been playing here and there along with getzlaf and perry as well as with parros and ryan carter, plus this year they actually have an open slot on the right wing so i think this is the year where he will be seeing a bit more of the big show.

He had so much hype because he was drafted second behind Crosby, but people don't seem to realize that it takes a while for Power Forwards to develop. Imagine the adjustment it would be for a kid who plays the game by pushing other 16-18 year old kids around, to having to go up against full grown men who have been playing the game for years. It takes time to adjust. He will be good in a year or two, just wait and see.

I never understood that mentality. If you collect a guy, who cares where he goes?

It all depends on why you collect a certain player. I collect the player I do because I love the way he plays the game, and the way he conducts himself. Some people collect based on where their player plays.

Sometimes it's nice to see other people fight over your player's cards, especially if you're sitting on a bunch. Believe me, it was strangely fulfilling to watch people shelling out $50 for Mike Cammalleri's Premier Collection RC, $60 for his Gold Premier Collection RC, $20 for his Young Guns card and $40 for his ITG Used Rookie during his hot start last year when I'd picked up multiple copies over the years for a fraction of that.

My cards weren't going anywhere, but still, was neat to see it

The other answer would be security and sanctity knowing he was a hot commodity in the event you chose to move your collection.

I'm the other big Bobby Ryan collector & know him personally. I started to collect his cards from the time that he arrived in Owen Sound to play out his junior years. He is an extremely hard worker with great hands & is fantastic with the fans. A class act! I fully believe that once he gets more of an opportunity to show off his skills in the NHL he will earn a full time spot on the roster. The injury to Beauchemin has freed up cap space to enable the Ducks to keep him up & playing :Don a more regular basis. As to wether or not he gets traded, that would not surprise me in the least. I know for a fact that he was close to going a couple of times last year & there is still current interest in acquiring him. Even if he trades teams, I will continue to collect his cards....Hobby love or no hobby Love! It's a personal thing.

One of the reasons I am loving my idea to switch to hockey full time.....other passionate fans! Thanks for that post.

I know I want to collect Stamkos - primarily because he's very young and should have many, many years ahead of him which would allow me collect his cards while actively watching his progression. I'm 34 and want to enjoy the next decade or so collecting someone who is fun and exciting. Stamkos seems to be a perfect fit for what I am looking for.

As for Bobby Ryan....quite simply he's from Cherry Hill, NJ and I am originally from NJ. So for me he is a home state talent. I've never heard a bad thing about him. Others say as you have...that he is great with fans and an all around nice kid. Not to mention his prices are a fraction of what Stamkos cards are......and quite frankly most of us are watching our budgets now.

So...without being able to collect both..this becomes a tough call. I REALLY want to collect Stamkos.....but Ryan seems to have all the ability and is far less expensive.

For now, it's stil Stamkos...I just really like the kid and his demeanor. But whether or not to collect Ryan or even Kane will always be in the back of my mind.

I have met him last year at the AHL ASG and he has a good personality. From what I heard his problem last season was maturity off the ice, but that is typical for a 21 year old. He has plenty of potential to be a 1st or 2nd liner

Picked up Bobby in my fantasy league when he got recalled. I am really glad I got him before someone else did because he has been very consistent for me. It sucks he couldn't stay up with the Getzlaf/Perry line, but surprisingly it hasn't hurt him at all playing along side the best mustache in the game George Parros. I will be picking up a couple Bobby Ryan Cup RC's in the near future for sure.

Does anyone have a link confirming this. Because the only thing I've heard of was that Cliff Fletcher offered to take Schneider and Ryan for a 1st round pick while training camp was under way. Which was promptly shot down Bob Murray. Either way, I doubt highly that Brian Burke has the horses to trade to get Bobby Ryan at this point unless they wanted to give up some serious draft picks.

I also don't think Bobby Ryan is a bust. The guy has been putting up solid numbers... on George Parros' line. That's right, he's getting goon minutes for the most part, save for the odd shift with Getzlaf and Perry. If he keeps things up, he won't be getting goon minutes for long.
