Thoughts on Canada Post Strike

Interesting side effects so far: auction closing prices. Some stuff is selling low as a consequence.

Get your deals in now. CP going on strike is good for the wallet if you are willing to be patient. Patience ALWAYS wins

Was lucky enough to get a card I bought on Tuesday ... today!!

It said Thursday it was still in Montreal was thinking, oh dear its gonna be a while

appreciate all those that had a hand in getting it to me so quick

Card was scheduled to arrive on the 28th day after i purchased it

Apparently the strike is a rotating one and items still get processed and sent out but expect delays depending on where they are getting sent. Makes sense. Negotations continue with some progress made.

It is not a rotating strike as mentioned by plenty of people on this thread already. It is a national strike. All operations have ceased.

These postal workers are going to get a rude awakening when they have to work twice as hard for 2-3 months to deliver the backlog of mail!

Canada Post declined to move to parcels instead of letter mail in 2015. Now if they are to try and survive in an increasingly more digital world they have to start from scratch as they thought they would be fine not adapting to parcels.

So apparently the Permanent Stamp is the majority of their business. I read somewhere that in 2015 when they declined to go digital they were delivering 300 million letters a year, now just 50 million.

So they have to get with the digital age, deliver more parcels and work with business and sellers and also deliver on week-ends to compete ?

Let's see what happens, I do not understand how Canada Post could cease to exist. Most of my business is letter-mail too! haha I need the strike to end.

There's echoes of the Hollywood writer's strike in their list of requests: protection from future technologies. While I support that they should make a living wage, they cannot demand that their employer permanently damage their long term viability further.

If a company like Amazon can come along and streamline their business to include low postage letter mail, Canada Post and every other national letter carrier may be in trouble. USPS can track everything and offer it at low cost to consumers and CP hasn't even attempted that. Amazon already has tracking capabilities...pricing attractively would put CP in another world of hurt.

Sold about 12 cards on EBay in the last week, I shipped them FEdEx ate the extra costs but kept the buyers happy

Canada Post is a Crown corporation. Anything that has ties to the Federal government is always going to be inefficient. The unions capitalize on this because they realize it doesn't matter if the business loses money because tax payers will simply make up the difference.

Short of a large gathering of the public hijacking picket lines to put pressure on workers and the union nothing will ever change.

Shocked this is not settled. Time for government to step in and force them back to work. The hate online for CP and its workers is unbelievable to see. They are not winning any fans in this.
