Hello,

I'm wondering if the base cards from Titanium Retail and Hobby are the same, or if there are 2 versions.

I've seen some scans of the hobby base cards, and I'm thinking about doing a base set (minus the RCs as you can guess)

Im pretty sure different hobby had gold foil and retail had silver, if I remember correctly

In 02-03 it was the case. I broke some retail wax from that year, and I have a hobby RC /99 in hands, and I can confirm the colors.

But, in my searches about the 01-02 stuff, I saw a retail RC /534 with a gold Titanium logo.

This set the hobby and retail were almost completely different cards. The hobby was a foil backed card, and the retail was a gray non-foil background. The RC's were #/player jersey number, and the retail were #/1534. Awesome base hobby set, but near impossible to complete.

This is the set with the infamous Ty Conklin RC #1/1 BTW.

The Draft Day Edition was the same with gold instead of silver foil, and it had the Kovalchuk auto inserted 1 per case.

That is correct, although I believe the Retail rookies were /534, not 1534.

Remember the big deal Beckett Magazine made when the Conklin 1/1 was pulled? Do you think it would even fech $100 nowadays?

that conklin would fetch mad money at auction, I'm sure there are still guys wanting hard to put that set to bed

I don't know man..... Yes it is the 1/1 that makes the set... but how many people out there have even seen some of the other super rare cards... The Kovy /17... I have seen one... but never in person. If you consider supply and demand... I think this one might sneak up on eBay at $50.

Consider the Jared Aulin YG error/mis-issue from the early 2000's. It was released in error... probably 10 are made. The past three that have sold on eBay (I know, not the be-all and end-all of prices) have been around $50. That is how much I bought mine for. There has to be more YG set collections out there than Titanium rookies.

But, who knows. Two insane card guys could jack the price to insane amounts. To me though, the Conklin is a $75 card at best.... and that is only because I am a Pacific geek.

I think it would do stupid money. There are some very serious collectors for that set with some very deep pockets.

I know this is football - but the same question came up and these were the only scans I had. Same product, but done the same way. For visual purposes:

hobby version - all shiny/reflective

retail version - dull and grey
