Im collecting shayne gostisbehere and now that he's playing like a complete stud his cards have been skyrocketing in price on eBay! My question is do you think I should sell what I have (and I have some good ones) and cash in or hold onto them?... In your opinion will the value continue to climb or has it hit its max?

Thanks guys for your help!

If he keeps it up AND the Flyers make the playoffs, then I think he still has some upside as far as card SV. Otherwise, if you can get a price you're happy with, sell!

daaammmnnn I just check, his ultimate auto rc is selling for 85 ??

I think I had 3 of them and sold for a grand total of 25 US =(

but yea, sell, most can be a bought back down the line

Sell now! Re-buy them 2 years down the road for a third of what you sell them for now.

Kind of a catch 22 here .

1st you sell now and he keeps up the play for many years to come.

or
2nd you keep cards now and he starts to cool off and you can't give them away.

So really you gotta ask yourself do you want to make some money on these or would you rather keep them and take the risk on him cooling off ?

If you're talking easily replaceable pieces (rc's, high numbered inserts, etc.) let 'em go. If it's stuff though that other collectors covet and you won't see it again once it's bought and you plan on continuing to collect him, hold on to them.

Sell...I am sitting on a bunch of Mike Green's I should have sold when he was hot. Defenceman rarely stay hot.

Let's face it...he's a young defenseman on an average team that has little to no chance of making an impact in the next couple of years. Ekblad is a stud, on an up and coming team, and you can't give his stuff away this year. The second Shane's play starts to drop even a little bit (and it inevitably will), you'll be wishing you had struck while the iron was hot.

I would sell anything you can live without.

Based on what usually happens with "hot rookies", he will be Gostisbewho before you know it. Don't let this opportunity to capitalize on your investment slip away.

Source: the Parise RC collection that I should have sold years ago which now brings me to a mix of rage/tears when I look at it.

Are you collecting, or prospecting? If you bought when they were low, and you want to cash out, like everyone has said in here, now is probably the best time to sell. You can always pick his stuff up later, once he's cooled off in the hobby, if you want it back. If you are collecting him, because you like the player a lot, then the question you've asked is irrelevant. ;)

I'm still waiting for my Andrew Raycroft collection to max out, lol. :duh:

4 of his Young Guns sat in my $2 binder at Expo, ended up coming home with them and turned them into a fat wad of cash over the weekend on the eBay. Ooooohhh yeeeeaaah!

Thanks guys! I have his high gloss and a couple 1/1's that I might consider keeping... Gonna sell off the rest while I can make some profit!
I have his Buybacks young guns auto /53 and /25... Keep or sell?

If you think you'll be able to replace them down the line sell them, if not, I'd hold onto them. Personally I'd keep the /53 and /25 if I planned on collecting him.

Sell all the common ones, print run 25 and above, right now.

Hold on to the rest.

Please see Krug, Schenn, Mike Green, and even Erik Karlsson for reference.
