Top 50 Free Agent list

Not a bad list. Ottawa will be moving on from Volchenkov (Keep him out of the east PLEASE!), and I hope the replace him with 1 of Hamuis or Z.Michalek. Gonchar would be nice, as would re-signing Cullen, we'll see!
 
Personally if I were a GM I'd wait on any of those guys instead of overpaying. Out of all of those I'd maybe want 5 or 6 if that. The rest would all be overpayed if signed in the first couple weeks of free agency.
 
I'd love the Flyers to be able to get Armstrong just for the amazingness it would be when his line (I'm guessing he'd be with Richards) would match up against Crosby's.
Other than that, Lebda or Lilja would be nice and affordable.

From someone who saw Lebda play daily. STAY AWAY! He is friggin awful! Bad passer and out of position and leaves his defensive partner out to dry all the time. Lilja would be ok for the price though. He's steady at the #7 d-man. If he's forced to play top 4 though he's pretty bad.

...don't want Gonchar. Hamhuis or Michalek would be cheaper replacements for Volchenkov... wouldn't mind Paul Martin either (wasn't he in Ottawa before... oh wait, that was that Prime Minister guy, heheh).

imagine who we could sign if we got rid of those 3? then again, let's not kid ourselves. we'd find the same talent (or lack thereof) in 3 other people essentially extending out the cap hit another few years.

In that case, do not want. We already have 2 7th defenseman playing 5-6.
 
Kovalchuk is a goal machine, but if I had the choice I would take Marleau in a heartbeat. I just hope Patrick doesn't end up in the blue and white of Toronto, I just couldn't accept him finishing up his career there.
 
Don't think Frolov will be a king but I would like to see Modin stick around for a few more seasons. he looked good in a Kings uni and played well in the playoffs. I also wouldn't mind seeing jokinen brought back to la.
 
Kings already had money to spend, you have to figure Frolov, Jones, O'Donnell, and maybe Halpern are gone. I like the idea of keeping Modin, and they have a couple of kids ready or real close to making the jump to the NHL on D. Marleau would be a perfect fit in LA in my opinion. He can keep his family where they ahve been his whole career (or fairly close), and he brings a lot of veterean presence to them. I don't see a better fit for him, and the Kings can certainly afford him. I'm hoping to see him in the black and silver next year.

To me Marleau is a great regular season guy but his playoffs are another story. This season was probably the first I've seen him show up and it was a contract year. I'd pass on him on a young team looking for leaders but a veteran team he might come in handy during the regular season. Playoffs all bets are off though!

He's played in 106 playoffs games, has 75 points in those games, including 12 game winning goals in the playoffs. Think about that, 12 game winning goals is essentially 3 playoff series. Pavel Datsyuk has very similiar numbers, 110 playoff games and 76 points. Does that mean Datsyuk is not a playoff performer?

In 07/08 and 08/09 he was injured prior to the playoffs starting, and according to one of the trainers in an article, majority of the players in the NHL wouldn't have even played with the type of injury he had.

I know the Sharks have not performed as expected, but that's the entire team, not just one player. I can't believe the bad rap this guy gets during the playoffs. At least the NHL announcers and analysts recognize what he brings to the table, they always comment on how he's the best and hardest working player on the team in the playoffs pretty much every game. He's without a doubt the best two way forward ont he team, and could/should be up for the Selke every year. Marleau is not the problem, and never has been.
