Top Sets for RC's

I apologize if this topic has already been discussed, but was wondering which sets are the best to collect that hold value and have many collectors scrambling to chase RC's?

I was thinking top 5 would be:

The Cup
SP Authentic
Upper Deck Series 1 & 2
OPC
UD Ice


Thoughts?

Burner's list is succinct and dead on.

OPC is a set builder's product whereas the other 4 have direct demand for rookie card collectors and are the rookie cards most sought after.

I suspect all of those products to remain in UD's lineup for 10-11. It'll be interesting what Panini brings to the table in terms of sought after rookies.

UD Premier Collection RC's do very well. Especially the one that were GU patches pre 03/04.

I forgot to add Ultimate Signatures RC... though not as highly sought after as the 4 in my list, it's definitely #5 after those.

Ultimate was considered one of the majors in '04-05 but it was relegated to just being another high end rookie card after the debut of The Cup in '05-06.

No love for SPX? I have to disagree on ICE since 95% of the rookies in that set don't hold any value at all and rank right up there with Trilogy and SPGU.

Lots of love for SPx, but it would fall in the second tier. A lot of people collect SPx, but it doesn't quite have staple product status as UD, SPA, and The Cup.

The same can be said for Ice, but as Burner said "Ice (only if they are a /99 SP)". Those rookies get a lot of attention.

I believe SPX is a solid mid-end product to collect since everyone can't afford the CUP. SPA will continue to be one of the staple products for UD for it's rookies/autos and other sub sets, but I prefer the design in spx and the game used element in their rookie cards.

SPX does not have any rookie game used element...

I like Ultimate. In terms of a player collector, the ranks would probably be:

Cup
Ultimate
SPA

People forget that the only way to get a one sided rookie shield is ULTIMATE. Ask any player collector, they probably wish they had the CUP RCs and then the Ultimate stuff before they want anything else. Maybe someone will want to spell out their name from Black too but probably not. For set collectors of rookies though, Ultimate drops off...
