Top three disappointments

Freemanation brought this up in the other thread. I would have to agree with his first one
1. Sam Gagner (hope he gets it going soon)
2. Patrice Bergeron (not doing much on a very good team)
3. Turris - not fair to say a rookie but I was expecting way more.
 
4. Joe Sakic. Honestly, I thought he had better sense than to jeopardize his own recovery from back surgery by doing his own snow. The bad luck of an accident with the snowblower just compounds the bad decision.

Sam Gagner would probably be at the top of most lists. I haven't caught many Oilers games this season, what is his deal?

As for Bergeron, I can comment on this one since I follow the Bruins very closely. He's had a hard time finding the back of the net earlier on this season, but he's been getting a little better luck offensively as of late. Patrice is a very complete player and does a lot more than just score/set up goals and with just about every other Bruin scoring it isn't hurting the team any. He also missed just about all of last season because of concussions. Hopefully his numbers continue to improve as we move through the season.

Seems like he has no confidence. He's getting the minutes though, PP and 2nd line but he's still sucking. Had a lame penalty shot effort on Luongo(Oilers had all the momemtum and he killed it) Had a lame shootout effort. Took a penalty to give Boston a PP in OT(they scored). He gaved away the puck that lead to the GWG with minutes to go(Columbus game). I have no idea whats going on. He's making me angry although he'll pull through.
*they thought when he got his first of the season, that would change but it didn't. Hopefully his concussion knocked some sense to him and starts to pick it up.

Other players

Eric Cole-yeah, he's drawn the most penaties for the Oilers but his offensive output is garbage. Had a chance on the 1st line. Now he's been playing with Pouliot and Moreau on the 3rd line w/PP minutes. He also won't go hard to the net. Some fans say his body language is "not liking Edmonton" although that could be frustration. He had a empty netter that hit the post, thats hows his season is going for him. He's trying though, hitting players and what not.

Honourable mentions-Robert Nilsson and Andrew Cogliano. Part of Gagner's line where there was all the hype.
RJ Umberger, I was expecting more from him.
 
sam gagner and erik cole are all working hard out there they are just not getting the chances.
 
1. Marian Gaborik - Has played a whoppin' 2 games this year after setting career highs in goals and points last year. Eating up something like $6M in cap space.

2. P-M Bouchard - Just signed a long term contract after setting career high in assists last year. He really isn't producing much without Brian Rolston on the team anymore.

3. James Sheppard - He was a high draft pick, and this was supposed to be his year to blossom. He really hasn't done squat.


Yes, I'm PO'd my team is on their first five game losing streak in their history. :mad:
 
Whille I do think that you can talk about breakouts at this point in the season - I think its pretty tough to say with any certainty that someone is a disappointment yet. There is a lot of time left to dodge the stigma of disappointment and remember the old adage..."It isn't how you start it's how you finish"

I can guarantee that most of these guys could catch fire, roll off 30 points in 20 games and it would be a completely different story.

That being said - Eric Staal hasn't done a heck of a lot yet this year - neither have any of the Canes for that matter. And Islander fans can't be real happy with DiPietro's status at this point.
 
3- Alex Kovalev (still gets point but he should be a goal leader here in mtl)
2- Steven Stamkos (the guy is still young but i was expecting more from him)
1- Thomas Plekanec (i was expecting a lot from this kid, it just wont be this year)
 
1. The Montreal fans voting all of their players as starters - even we Flyers fans aren't that vain.
2. Atlanta is still a team
3. Danny "Glass" Briere and his $7.5M/season

Also, you mentioned the guy who posted this exact thread before you; why didn't you just reply to it?

Well here are my top 3 I originally started a new thread but no one jumped on board :( ah well.

For me it's Sam Gagner, considering this kid had close to 50 pts as a rookie and currently has 5 or 6 a third of the way through this campaign, he needs to get a fire lit under him, maybe a healthy scratch a la Dustin Penner would fire him up.

Next, Sean Avery, some people may disagree with this, but the Star threw a lot of money to get a pest, (not that they needed one, as I think Steve Ott is great at his job), This guy to me is the "guy everybody loves to hate" but when he's on your team you love him because he annoys everyone, however he got under the skin of his teammates and now is jobless and the Stars are stuck with a 3.75 million dollar cap hit on a guy that most likely won't play in the NHL again this year, hopefully he made the most of his Vogue internship during the summer and can get a job there. I know Mike Modano will be happy he's gone, and it's good to see Brett Hull admit his mistake.

Thirdly, the Ottawa Senators organization, here is a team that was a Stanley Cup Finalist 2 years ago. This year they are in contention to pick up a top 5 draft pick. To me the Sens are the Lightning of 3 years ago when they took their top 3 forwards and invested everything in them, forgeting the fact that they haven't had a number one goalie ever and lost solid defenders in Redden and Meszaros. Here's hoping they can turn around this season or at least pick up Khabibulin to help there goaltending woes. I say dump Spezza, but that's just me.

Take a look at the current standings before you take ignorant potshots like that. You'll notice that your cross-state rivals in Pittsburgh are doing exactly the same thing and they're openly flaunting that they're using a script to bump the votes. Of course, because it's propelled the Golden Boy up to a comfortable lead, nobody at the NHL or anywhere else is doing or saying anything about it.
 
Gagner isn't living up to results, but for crying out loud, he is only 19 people. He plays hard, its just small things that he needs to adjust. it seems like he is being covered more this season, and that may have something to do with it. He'll bounce back. Same with Stamkos and Turris. They are rookies. We have been spoiled with rookie performance since the lockout, so I think we expect a 100 point rookie every year. That isn't the norm, and it isn't fair to these young kids (especially Stamkos, who quite frankly should never have been given a shot at the NHL at this point) to expect that of them.

3. Daniel Briere: its sad when we win more games without him.

They should just rename the All-Star Voting. Call it what it is: "Who has more free time: Habs fans or Pens fans"
 
Here are my top 3 Dissapointments so far:

1. Sam Gagner-being an Oiler Fan his start to the season was awful. He has slowly picked it up the last month but the concussion he had set him back again. Maybe a trip to the minors to help gain some confidence is in order. They do have Schremp who played a couple real solid games to replace him.

2. Marian Gaborik-being the last year in his contract you think he would do anything to go out there and produce for a nice contract at the end of the season. Injury's have always been this guys downfall which really isnt his fault but I did expect more from him this year.

3. A month ago I would have said Johnathon Toews but recently he seems to have finally found his game. So instead I'll go for the 2nd's with Sean Avery he has always been a head case but to come out and say something like he said on live TV is just a total dissapointment of any professional athlete.
