Topps Finest- Type peels; left on = Higher Value?

If a card "lists" at BV10, but it still has the protective peel on it, does that make it the BV, or would it have a premium over the BV??

Consider the 98-99 Topps Finest set as an example...

In most situations, I'd say that the BV is for cards with the peel on.

Peels taken off would render the card as being in a state untrue to the way it was issued.

Obviously, Mystery Finest cards are an exception to the rule.

Yes and no. There are ways to tell who it is without peeling...

That said, be careful what you peel. Some of the earlier incarnations didn't separate well.

as was stated above, cards like those with the peels on them are best left in unpeeled condition. i'm of the opinion the BV is for cards with the peels and anything else is less desirable thus bringing the BV down for a peeled card.

Thanks guys. I have a Cleary from 98-99, and 5 bucks just seems low to me, and it has the peel on, so I was wishy-washy on it....

I agree and disagree.

1) the Mystery finest cards had a black plastic cover on them. How is this any different than the annoying "remove protect..." on the regular set ones.

2) I pay more for ones that are sealed not because it was in original condition but because I am guaranteed to get one that isn't scratched. Those plastic films were on there for a reason. That said, for ones that are in BGS holders, I pay more for ones that are peeled than for ones that are not. BGS grades non-peeled ones based on the surface of the peel, not the surface of the card.
