K I'm not as good a Brian lol but anyways.
3-2 win for the leafs in philadelphia and outshooting em too.2 goals for versteeg on his first game against TO but in a loosing cause.Richards as usual chipping in with a few points(2 assists).Bob with the loss for Philly.
Reimer gets the win for TO with a 28 save effort for his 12th win i think it is now.Phaneuf,kuly,boyce with Goals for toronto and a pointless game for Kessel for a change.
Nice win for the leafs against a team that thought they were lucky to win against the Pens the other night.

Reimer was fantastic! Phaneuf was great and the team never gives up. They constantly give a great effort now.

Really fun to watch again!

Maybe we wont have to catch the Canes but the Rangers instead now.

We are 3 behind the Rags with a game in hand. They are free falling... we are playing great (10-2-4 in last 16).

At this point, if we catch anyone, its the Rangers.
 
Okay, I'm not trying to raise crap here, I have a legitimate question.

Don't the Leafs seem to do this a lot? Play like an AHL team until game until mid-February, go on a tear and 'flirt' with making it, and then die in the last 10 or so games? I must admit I don't follow the Leafs in the least, but I seem to recall this happens frequently?
 
True but then again you could say stuff about alot of teams..like vancouver with high expectations every year yet getting crushed in the playoffs.Or my team Caps...hmmm where's our cup....but I still cheer lol.
Personally for a team that was supposed to be bottom 3 and giving boston another top 5 draft...I think they're showing grit.Good for them ,at least they're not rolling over and playing dead!!!
And so they finally found a goalie that can play....well like most teams they're going to let him play and see what happens. :)

You are more or less accurate however a few things are different.

In years past it was only a 'brief' stretch. Like 8-10 games. This stretch seems to be a little more prolonged right now at 10-2-4 in their last 16.

Also, those teams did it with older scrubs who were happy to play with no pressure (because they were already eliminated). Guys like Allison, O'Neill, JS Aubin went 8-1 or whatever, Stajan, Ponikarovsky, Blake, Mccabe, etc.

This team? They are doing it with the youngest group in the NHL.

Reimer- 22
Phaneuf- 25
Aulie- 21
Schenn- 20
Gunnarsson- 23
Kulemin- 24
Kessel- 23
McArthur- 25
Grabovski- 26


These are the guys they rely on (goalie, top 4 D, 4 forwards) and they have an average age of 23.2. Hopefully next year we can augment these guys with recent first rounders Kadri, Colborne and Gardiner.

The feeling is this time around it might be different because they aren't doing it with scrub NHLers but rather a nice young nucelus who give an honest effort every single night.

The other difference I can point out that is different form this years late push to years past is that they didn't have a completely horrible start to the year. In years past they have been pretty much bad the whole season and then have some semblance of a late push to get peoples hopes up. This year they have had a few stretches where they have looked quite competitive, mixed in with some poor play but on a whole it is a different scenario.

That being said I am still a bit pessimistic that they will pull it out in the end and make the playoffs, but man would I ever like to watch some playoff hockey!!

This is exactly the difference. The young guys are playing and are playing well.
