I'm just checking out what the other TO fans think...not looking for arguements from other people lol.Anyways I was looking to see if anyone else thinks the same way lol.
Now keep in mind this team is rebuilding so they have more time to give prospects a chance to shine and more in depth look.
I have been watching the line of hanson, bozak, and stalberg and they have impressed me more than i had thought they would. And they have been turning heads and raising some eyebrows for good reason. What are they all around 6'1 or 6'3?I think they are at least, and they've all gotten a few goals or assists so far. They've clicked for some reason and well at least to me that is a good thing.
This team is rebuilding and it's going to take time,so no we're not going to challenge for the cup for awhile. But if you see some bright spots shouldn't you go with it?I mean of course,Blake, kessel(when he's ready) and i guess Stajan for centre make up the 1st line.Okay all good and well but this team is rebuilding so there is alot of room for talented guys to make a name for themselves. There's no stars malkin, ovy, staal, backstrom, iggy etc so there's room for improvement.Like this line of hanson, stahlberg, bozak are gelling and putting up numbers and well all have some decent size for forewards.I'd keep em up and go with them.
Also this Kadri rookie, there's some talent here in this kid.Why not give him a chance like they did schenn and see if he can do it in the first year and keep him with the big team.I mean grabovski, hagman maybe a few others are good enough for the big team but jeez if you see you have a budding scorer why send him down? They have room and are rebuilding so unlike other teams they can afford to give players a longer look and who knows maybe soemone will really step it up.Kinda like finding a diamond in the rough;)
So last year and the years before these guys haven't done the job so give it to someone else who's going to fight for it then. Why not,it's rebuilding time so go with it maybe the team will surprise people ona whole.
I'm thinking goal, and defence are pretty well shored up.I just think there is enough reason for the coach to keep some other guys up ,although it is wilson so probably not.But hey here's hoping lol.So first line is done ,well that means there are a few other lines for people who want to make this team better. And well to begin the journey of getting back to playoff runs.I think this team needs a big shot of hunger.
So enough of my babble, what do you other guys think?

Although Kadri has played well, there is no reason for them to keep him up for the full year. Keep him for the 9 games then send him back to junior. You have four young guys(Kadri, hanson, Bozak, Stalberg) who have all played well during the exhibition. But look at project Leaf forwards:

Stajan
Blake
Kessel

Grabovski
Kulemin
Hagman

Ponikarovsky
Stempniak
Mitchell

Orr
Mayers
Primeau

There is really no reason for any of those 4 to play on anything but the top two lines. You arent gonna have Bozak on the fourth line or anything. Even then you have a guy like Stempniak who in my mind has played very well this exhibition season. I dont really think its a matter of Wilson or the Leafs just wanting to keep other guys up, but they realisitically have to fight for a line up spot and beat out someone like Kulemin, or Ponikarovsky. Hell there is still Tlusty as well.

I would love to see Bozak or Stalberg stick around instead of one or two guys, but if they arent gonna get minutes let them play with the Marlies and gain some experience.

Forgot about Poni and tlusty...Grabs is good to but the rest don't blow me away or anything.I'm just saying is the team serious about an overhaul and rebuilding or are they going to keep using the same guys and hoping for better output?;)
I agree he'll be back down more than likely but I'm just saying why not go for it?Give the rookies who want to try harder a chance and the guys who have not been getting it done a wave goodbye. We've been using this rebuilding thing for a bit now so let's really use it.What's the worst that can happen?Well we're not going to the cup and rebuilding is going to take time so why not make the best of the time?
Unless someone thinks the leafs can go all the way?But I'm realistic and figured why not make the most of it.People already said the leafs were doen before we dealt for kessel. But he's not going to save everything heheheh.Lets take a serious look at what we really have....maybe some backup will come out of itfor Kessel or at least show some definate talent.
cheers

experiment time was good before we traded 2 first round picks... not now...
we can't afford to that now... unless our veterans fail first.

the kids should be with the marlies at first, and let them make there impact
during the season instead of right off the bat... although I feel Mayers may not
make it, and Bozak will likely stick... Kadri is better off in junior for the year, but after maybe a game or two in the NHL...

Go leafs go.

I dont see how using the using this rebuilding thing for sometime fits in. This rebuild was started a year ago, we arent sitting on 5 years of a rebuild.

Would it be fun to have that line of younsters out there? Sure it would. But they should not be given a spot on the team unless they beat someone out for it. I do feel however that Bozak, Hanson, and Stalberg will be given a shot this year.

I would love to see Kadri, Bozak and Stalberg in the lineup this season. Stalberg got 2 goals already tonight and its only the start of the thrid period. I think Bozak and Kadri have been very impressive so far this season.

Bozak is pretty much a sure bet to start with the Leaf's since Burke is in love with him and he plays an all round game. Kadri has been really impressive in the pre season and has shown a lot of offensive flare, but this has been against the B players of teams. From what I have seen and heard Ron Wilson say Stallberg has big very impressive and also has a pretty good shot of making the team.

I remember something that Wilson said earlier however. This guys are all still kids and you need to baby them into the league. There is no point in rushing all of them in and ruining their careers or setting their careers back in any fashion. Kadri also needs to gain more muscle since the average player in the league is over 200 pounds and he's around 180 or so.

Tlusty has been a total bumber for me with only 1 goal and not showing much of anything, but maybe he'll start with the team just to see what he can do. My line combinations are as follows:

Stajan
Poni
Blake

Grabovski
Hagman
Kulemin

Bozak
Stempniak
Mitchell

Mayers
Orr
Primeau

and kadri being the 13th forward and getting pp time and some time on a secondary scoring line...regardless the leaf's have depth up front. it might not be front line depth, but they have players that can play in the NHL or are up and coming players in the league and that's always a good sign!! gustavson also looked pretty good in his first period of nhl action..

Stalberg and Bozak was good again tonight. The MONSTER stole the show, wow what a great game he had. Detroit had a 2 on 0 and he made an amazing cross crease slide save, beauty. The monster could be the starter. He is yet to give up a gpal.

The monster was 1st star and Stalberg was the games 2nd star.

I need Leaf's TV!! The Monster will push Toskala and provide the Leaf's with a solid back up, but unless Toskala totally stinks the joint out, he will be the main guy. Goaltending like pitching in the big leagues is something you can never have enough of, so this is a luxury that seems to be blossoming in Leaf's Nation..

After watching the youngsters against the Wings tonight I liked what I saw from Toronto.

That being said - please take a few pages from the Wings management:

Send these kids down - let them mature and let them work together. Get them up t game strength (82 game schedule) and let them get physically stronger. The Leafs are not going to be a Stanley Cup factor this year - learn not to rush these kids. And most of all - do not get so giddy during the pre-season - and think they are ready. They looked good in back to back games on Fri & Sat......... but they were not playing the regular season Red Wings.

I am tired of seeing the Leafs and their fans go ga-ga over a young player and not really give them the chance to become the future stars they can be. There are so few 21 year olds and younger that really are ready for the NHL - and bringing them in early harms their development more than helps it. Playing EVERY day as the top 6 men on an AHL team does more for them than playing 4-8 minutes in the NHL as a 4th liner.

The Leafs have gotten rid of their management problems....... give them the time to make their young draft picks all they can be as well. Even as a Wings fan - I would love to see the Leafs return to real contenders.

mmm it was on CBC HNIC :owned:

Kadri should be back to junior. He has looked good, but he doesn't need 82 games of getting knocked around. Better for him to go back to the OHL and dominate.

Stalberg should (and probably will) start the season in Toronto. The Leafs are lucky to have the Marlies in the same city. Stalberg, Bozak and Hanson are not the Leafs usual rookies - they got the benefit of developing at their own pace in the NCAA. Out of sight, out of the pressure cooker.

I think all of them except Kadri will see NHL ice this season. Maybe not for a full season, but their preseasons have earned them a shot.

Where's Kessel in all this?

The one thing you guys keep forgettting is that if they keep these guys for more than 9 games, they'll hit FA a year sooner. None of these kids have what it takes to be an impact player just yet, so let 'em ply their time in the AHL or Major Jr, and have them in the system for an extra year.....

I didn't forget it, I ignored it. The CBA will be renegotiatied in the interim (before any of these guys reach RFA status, except Gustavsson), and things are likely to change drastically. There's no way to predict how things might change.

The CBA should be changed and get rid of the FA rule b/c I don't really see the point in that, but that's another story for another day. It's just nice for the Leaf's to have some prospects for a change!

ok speculation is over...LEAFS SEND KADRI TO JUNIOR; ASSIGN HANSON, FROGREN TO MARLIE

from tsn.ca

With the regular season less than a week away, the Toronto Maple Leafs reduced their roster by four players on Sunday.

First round draft pick Nazem Kadri was returned to the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, Christian Hanson and Jonas Frogren were assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League and Andy Rogers was released.

More roster moves are expected to be made following Sunday's preseason finale against the Buffalo Sabres.

Kadri impressed throughout training camp but Leafs' head coach Ron Wilson hinted early on that another year in junior might be best for the London native.

"If he goes back to junior, I'd be shocked if he didn't get 100 points in the OHL with his hockey sense, his speed," said Wilson last week. "He really believes in himself."

Hanson, who signed as a free agent late last season, also had a solid training camp but was unable to unseat any of the incumbents up front.

And with the Leafs adding Mike Komisarek, Francois Beauchemin and Garnet Exelby in the offseason, Frogren became a victim of the numbers game.

But an assignment to the AHL is not all negative in the eyes of Wilson.

"We feel that playing in the American Hockey League is not really a detriment to anybody's career," Wilson said last week.

After Sunday's preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres, the team will travel to Huntsville for a team-bonding trip.

The Montreal Canadiens will present the opposition when the Leafs open the regular season on Thursday.

How many more cuts are there going to be? Kadri will dominate the OHL and his confidence will be sky high going into next year. Hanson is an up and comer, but the incumbents are better than he is. Glad Bozak and Stallberg are getting a more extended look, but now that I look at it I can't see them unseeding any of the vets either..

Thread was done just 1 post in:) Neither of those 4 would really have a "purpose" on any of those lines. You arent going to put them on the 4th line either. The only one I am not sure of is Kulemin, Im not too familiar with him. But no one else from their starting 12 deserves to get booted in favor of a young kid that hasnt proven himself, especially if it only lasted 9 games.
