Trevor Linden Collection Stolen

Had a chance to chat with him today. He feels like it was a targeted break-in (as a good majority of his collection was well stored in his basement).

This is just a respectful reminder for everyone (especially those attending The Card Show in Calgary this weekend) to please be on the lookout for rare Linden cards popping up.

He also shared a small bit of good news (a "silver lining" as he put it)....the jewels of his Linden collection - the numerous Topps Gold Label 1/1's he has - were not stolen. Somehow the thieves managed to overlook them and leave them behind in a binder.

Not that that makes things any easier.....but I'm happy that some of his prized pieces have remained in his possession.

He also noted that this won't stop him from collecting moving forward....which I am thrilled to hear. It's one thing to lose a collection, it's another to lose a collector.

Thank you for your time.

Wow. Super sad to hear this happened.

For better or worse, I keep cards in the safety deposit box and really nothing at home. It's sad because I like to look at them (out of sight, out of mind); however, better safe than sorry.

Some mentioned insurance. I've had a break-in in the past and my 3rd party home owners insurance covered the full value of my rather valuable belongings missing. I specified the coverage value and listed and took photos of valuables insured. It was not a problem.

I hope justice is served. I bet this is targeted too.

There has been a bit of an update to this. Brett and I got the email minutes ago.

Summary.
- Jersey have been recovered "the idiot had them hung on his wall"
- 60 Linden's recovered including 13-14 ITG Badges of Honor
- 18 unopened boxes were recovered
- bulk of Linden cards are still missing
- "The police know who the thief is and are looking for him"
- none of my [his] wife's jewelry was recovered, to be expected.

So, please continue to keep an eye out for any large Linden lot.

Kevin

Thanks for posting this Kev. Happy to hear that there has been some progress made. I feel like the next few weeks will be really critical when it comes to how successful recovering the rest of the items will be.

Eyes peeled....big time.

At least there is some good news. I remember how sick to my stomach I was when Dean got ripped off. Hopefully the police can recover the rest of the stolen cards and Jewelry. At this point it will be unlikely but lets all think positive for him. I hope they find the person, arrest and charge them, at least that should help the owner feel a little better. Everyone keep watching for the items.

It’s been over two years since this theft. I do searches on eBay for “Linden” on a daily basis...ok, busted - hourly basis. It finally happened.

I saw the first low numbered card from this stolen collection pop up. Every time I see a low numbered Linden.....I go to the list provided to me by the collector to check for serial numbers and what he had. This one was easy to confirm.

It was a Leaf Ultimate dual patch with Bure 1/1. From the 2015 season.

I quickly took some screenshots and sent them off to the Linden collector. Sure enough, he remembered that card - and even had the purchase document from when he bought it on eBay (just a few short months before the theft).

The auction was up and then taken down very quickly and his eBay name was also changed at the same time. I’ve given all info to the collector and told him if there was anything else I could do to let me know.

Just bumping this to let people know that I’m still keeping an eye out and if you could please too it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is great. Everything eventually comes around and that could be the lead that collector needs. It's up to him to get the police involved and be on them like a dog on a bone.....

I really hope someone gets nailed for this

Who was the seller? Someone local in Kelowna?

Not sure where he’s located. The auction was quickly cancelled and the screenshots I took doesn’t show that info.

Seller is from Canada.

When the posting was made, it was under the name elitesportsmerch (42) and only had two items up. Then they were removed and his eBay name was changed to wingman_867 (42) with nothing to show.

It’s got my ears perked for sure and I hope the Linden collector shares this info with the authorities.

Hey Brett, it appears that same card has been relisted under a new name, sportscardsandmoresix04 along with a Cup Limited Logos.

Holy crap. That Limited Logos is his too.

Email being sent to the Linden collector immediately.

Thanks for the heads up Elliot.

Edit: I’ve just taken some screenshots and have sent the email. Not sure what more I can do now other than wait. As much as I would like to email the seller, I definitely do not want to tip my hand in any way. He has other cards for sale (under a new eBay name) and so I hope this is the break that I’ve been waiting for for two years.

Will keep this thread updated.

Wow this is an amazing update and I really hope they are able to track this person down and retrieve the stolen goods (assuming this is the person who took them in the first place).

Looks like the same seller has a few higher end cards up for sale for pretty cheap.

The Gaudreau Rinks of Honor popped up on my daily check...straight auction style. Normally this should be an $80 card min. I don't need it but could use a double - with that said, I refuse to put a bid in given what we know about the lindens.

Then I looked at some of the other listings. It's a little unsettling if all of these listings are stolen goods. Yikes.

Just to add some info.

The Linden collector has reached out to the seller to ask if he had any other Linden cards. The seller said he did.....and will provide a list (and/or scans). This right here makes me wonder if he picked up the lot with the intention of flipping. I don't know if the thief would communicate this kind of info. But then again....what do I know.

I know very little.....and am assuming even less.

The Linden collector has indicated that none of the other cards up in the seller's auctions are ones that he had. No clue where those cards came from.

The Linden collector is looking to get a little more information before he approaches the authorities. Right now, the seller has reached out to him via e-mail (so now an e-mail address is involved). There are a lot of balls in the air.

For me......I'm going to be a very aware observer - willing to help out at a moment's notice. I don't want to start going down paths without hard facts.

Will continue to update.

Holy Crapola...yes definitely keep us all updated !!!

I hope the thief is exposed and charged as per karma.... and more importantly, the Linden collection is returned back to its rightful owner.
