Trevor Moore Rookie Card Question

Hi all, quick question.

Looks like Trevor Moore of the Leafs has a "rookie card" in the new epack Compendium 2. Does that mean he wont have any in any of next year's releases? Kind of a fine line here if a release online and a physical release are the same.

He's not the only one.... I was eyeing the Oilers in Compendium Series 2, and they've got three guys like that.

There are still a lot of other releases to come out this year, so Compendium may not be his only one. For sure he won't have a full slate of releases though.... and I would not expect him to be used as a Rookie in next season's sets, no.

Knowing Oilers' Rookie Cards: This happened with Nick Ellis last year. He was in the AHL set, and Compendium (he was a backup goalie for a game last season) - never had any other cards, was not in this year's releases (though he also retired from hockey after last season, so maybe that changed plans? I don't know)

Compendium is offered online exclusively, but you can get Physical cards - so if Compendium is Moore's only RC, you should be able to pick up the Compendium Blue on COMC (or ePack) pretty soon.

Yeah- the cut off date for carryover rookies is roughly New Years Day.. Trevor Moore's debut was Dec 23. So his rookie cards will be 2018-19 sets.

I would expect 10 players, or so, to have YGs as part of an Update set. Maybe not Moore... no idea who the "best 10 that don't have one" are.

For anyone who made their NHL debut early enough to get into this year's sets (like Moore) ?? Clearly not... by virtue of the fact that he's on Compendium Series 2.

There's a great chance UD will make more Moore rookie cards this year - but there is zero chance he'll be in next year's products as a rookie, since they've now made 18-19 RCs of it.

Wouldn't UD want to save some of the best for next year tho?

Just to add to that....

There were 120 players that got RCs in Compendium last year. There are 49 YGs per series, and 10 in the Update set.... so there were at least 12 players who got Compendium RCs, but no YG. Maybe there was more (I don't know - would take a bit of work to compare the the checklist).

I'd actually be interested in seeing how many of those 12+ did not have any other RC. As I mentioned before: Nick Ellis (for sure) had a Compendium RC last year, and no others.

I suspect that list is short though.

I collect Goalie RCs and Ken Appleby and Alex Lyon fall into this category.

Compendium base cards can't be official RCs because they are digital only.

Blue and Gold versions can't be RCs because they are parallels

I still await an "official" RC of these two as time is running out on set releases for 2018-19

If they don't get cards this year I don't know what they will have for me to add to the collection. 2019? None at all?


In recent years Tyler Bunz was the closest goalie to not have a RC. He had one in SPGU #d to his jersey #

Fleer Showcase was good because the quads included several one time card guys like Alves, and I believe Will, Kasdorf, Martin, Langhamer if I'm not mistaken.

You have to go back many years before you see a goalie who actually played not get a card

This thread did get me wondering.... so I took a look. This is reviewing last years Compendium (all three series) and last year's young guns (series 1 & 2, plus the 10 YG update).

First, I was surprised that 15 players had YGs, but NOT Compendium RCs:
