Yesterday, I was doing some cleaning in my base cards, reorganizing stuff by sets when I found my UD Choice 1998-99 cards. I looked at them, and I told myself "hey, this was some cool stuff". Even for a low-end product the cards are sharp looking, the subsets are interesting and add some more stars cards in the set, there's an easy parallel set that gives some thrill to breaking packs, the Starquest cards of various colors are cool looking, and the blue are easy to collect, while the red are a nice challenge and the gold nearly impossible. The Mini-Bobbing Heads are ugly, but unique. And, the parallels /100 are a really hard hobby pull that is really cool when you find one (I remember when my friend pulled a Lecavalier back in the days! :) )

And, I told myself "hey, if UD bring something similar to UD Choice back into their line-up as entry-level, instead of ugly Fleer, that would be cool".

Are there other UD Choice fans in here?

It was a fun set for its day, but I think its replacement (MVP) was superior in most aspects. I think that UD choice had no middle end to speak of -- you go right from the quarter-bin SQ Red cards up to the impossible-to-locate SQ Golds and Prime Choice parallels.

That said, I actually really like the design from the 98-99 UD Choice brand -- and the subsets were done pretty well. There's a few decent best-RCs snuck in too!
