UD fakes directly from Upper deck

Hey gang, I have been wanting to pick up one of these SP Authentic Rookies Review of Gaborik. I have been watching them pretty close and they all seem to have that weird gold and marroon color. I am sorry these are not typical Wild colors. This is not the first time I have seen these colors from UD on Gaborik either. I thought they are supposed to be acurrate with game used?

If you have any input on this please explain. I do not believe the seller did some fake patchwork either. This sure gets old and questionable!!!!

If anything I think they could be photoshoots from another players jersey on the Wild and got mixxed up. I am saying there looks to be more marroon then red and the gold looks more gold then the picture in the patch.

I have seen them on other cards and I have a few laying around like that. I also have few cup patch cards that look much better then those colors. The wild do not have marroon colors as far as I know

by the way I own these cards and they have marroon in them and my scanner works great

Also one more thing Chris, where does that wierd gold come from? I know it is not the numbers. You are the expert maybe you can help on that one.

If you know Wild patches like we know Wild patches, you'd know these are not real game jersey patches. Must be a replica jersey they used (and a cheap imitation at that)...maybe a photoshoot replica used for Mikko Koivu or Matt Foy in their rookie cards??? Definitely not a Gaborik game-used Wild jersey. Colors are way off and patch textures are not right.

Examples:

UD Cup Gaborik with non-Wild jersey patch. Nowhere does a Wild jersey have this glittery gold for a nameplate or number....nameplates and numbers have a wheat/tan color, never glittery gold. Numbers are layered with green and red.

SPGU Gaborik Patch is a weird dark green, dark maroon, white. Nowhere does a real Wild jersey have these colors. ???

Compare to this cheap replica version patch. Notice the too dark of red and solid texture (Wild shoulder patches have embroidered texture to them, not a solid canvas-like texture)...same goes for the solid white patch part. Plus gold outline is too thick.

No green/maroon/green color scheme in a Wild jersey...Plus colors are way too dark....sorry....this is a "fake" one, too.

I brought this up to Upper Deck when I first saw these "fake" Wild Gaborik patches appear a couple of years ago in the Ultimate one above and some from the first Cup. They assured me they were "game-used", but what else were they going to say? I know better. Some have also popped up on Gaborik patches in SPGU from last year, in the 2006-07 Cup, and now the new SPA Rookie Review Gaborik cards. :|
 
What really catches my eye with the card called into question is the size and thickness of the "M" on it. If I had any Photoshop skills, I'd show you what I mean.

...but ya, the shimmery gold and odd maroon colors have never been used on Wild jerseys in a real game that I know of (it's more like tan and red). UD has been throwing those patches in cards for a while now, and I'd love to ask the Wild equipment manager if they'd ever used something like that. I'd care to bet the answer is no.

What does it matter to UD, though? Those patches were "certified to them as being used in an official NHL game" (by whom??). Shoot, I should start selling them "certified by me" game-used jerseys. I could use some extra cash to buy their cards like the sucker that I am.
 
Another reason we suspect fake replica jerseys being used for Gaborik and now Rolston.

Problem is...Upper Deck had never printed a Rolston patch/jersey card with a Wild jersey up until then. They always used his Bruins jersey. Here they used a Rolston game-used Bruins Patch, like they should have:

My theory is UD had some cheap replica Wild jersey being used for the Mikko Koivu rookie photoshoot cards. Somehow, swatches from this replica was swapped in for some Gaborik and Rolston cards, whether accidental or on purpose. But it happened.

It's hard to tell from scans, I guess, but in person it's really obvious. I don't know who we are trying to convince, though. We are the ones spending our hard earned money on this stuff. What's worse...patch faking on the secondary market, or UD passing off phonies as real? Even the "real" looking ones could be from a Wes Walz pre-season jersey for all I know. I'm losing faith in UD a little more each day.


By the way, doesn't the back of that Rolston card say it's from a game-used Boston Bruins jersey even with the "Wild" swatch?

Wow you guys are on to something for sure, I've always wondered about the authenticity of jersey cards, and patch cards.

Not a wild fan but I would have never know the difference untill you guys pointed it out. Being the WILD fans you are,would you now shy away from a piece if it is suspected to be a replica jersey patch ?

I have to think this is a distinct possibility. If not,why is it only Wild players?

Absolutely, this is why I have been watching these Sp authentic rookies reviews, hoping there is one that looks right. If anything I am just going for the autograph, that is what I always look for anyways.

I believe the Providence Bruins were caught sellling authentics as game worns in their team stores a while back as well. I always wondered why the ones they showed had no marks.
 
I really have no idea, but is it possible they use a cheaper style jersey for pre-season games that could be different, along the lines of those ugly screen printed names we see on Ranger jerseys??

I have to admit that it's even more a dissapointment for this to be a possibilty. The photo shoot jerseys , heroes and legends or event jersey(whatever you want to call it ) is bad enough but using fakes as a real could be huge black mark.

I have to admit,even though ITG designs are less attractive,it's the real deal.
