I've got (2) outstanding redemptions with Upper Deck that I've just grown sick of waiting for.

2014-15 UD Premier Kevin Hayes Rookie patch autograph /299

2014-15 UD Premier Anthony Duclair Gold Spectrum Rookie Patch auto /10

Hayes avoids kids asking for an autograph (personal experience w/son)

Duclair is obviously not worth much after floundering in Arizona. Kid was hot for the Rangers, ol' Glen finally made a good trade....

What is the Duclair /10 worth?

How much total value do I ask Upper Deck for if I take replacements?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Unless there is documented proof that you purchased a card for $x price, they will approximate it in BV. At least in my experiences in swapping out redemptions, including cards /10 or /5, I have been fairly or somewhat over compensated based on the lists of players and teams that I have provided when requested. On some unique pieces, I have been reluctant to ask to have it swapped out because Beckett has priced them so low or is so out of whack with the known market that I won't take that chance (i.e. an autographed Monumental Emblem out of 13-14 Oilers Collection - I paid about $250 for the card through another collector, but the market for these cards is considerably different that the listed BV in Beckett)

So unless you have about $400-500 in BV, or a lot of redemptions from high-end releases like Premier, Cup, Ultimate et al, my experience is that asking for the big guys like Gretzky, Crosby, Matthews, McDavid and Roy generally won't happen, so temper your expectations. I've found that asking for second star tier players or rookies who aren't on everyone's wantlists are more likely to be fulfilled

I had Hayes and Duclair in my queue. I asked to get the Duclair's replaced and did not ask for the Hayes cards to be replaced but they replaced them anyway. I got junk in return. Ronalds Kenins, Brock McGinn, Hanifin, MacKinnon non-rc. The BV on these were high as they were relatively new. The BV on Hayes and Duclair were low because they were from the previous year. I asked for players I knew they had cards of: Panarin, Ghost, Draisaitl, Kane and Price. Didn't get a one.

This is not the first time I've heard of people getting cards replaced that they didn't want replaced. Not sure how you would get around that. I have 1 redemption in my queue I would like to get replaced, but I also have 8 others in the queue that I want to keep.

Your replacement list all have higher values than Duclair/Hayes. I see a lot of people ask for the top end players for their low-middle range player replacements. They end not getting anything from the list, and then UD randomly chooses other players for you. I think heeding Hama's advice would make people happier.

I had 10 cards replaced totaling 400 bv. There is no way they couldnt have sent me replacements of the players i asked for. They just saw an opportunity to dump some cards of unpopular players and took it, rather than make a customer happy after i waited almost 2 years for the cards to get signed.

Your situation is another cautionary tale of what happens when you request the top players of the hobby when the cards being replaced are not the top players.

You may not agree with what I said earlier, and you want to vent your situation to random internet strangers, but at the end of the day you are the one stuck with the "junk" of "Ronalds Kenins, Brock McGinn, Hanifin, MacKinnon non-rc".

I'm going to assume you have a PC of the Wild based on your location, which may be true or not. But using that as a starting point, let's say you requested players from the Wild like Parise / Coyle / Dumba, or whatever player that is closer to the Duclair, and had they fulfilled that request, would you have been happier with the outcome?

Onto your further point of having a TOTAL BV of $400 over 10 cards.
There is a reason that UD would not combine BVs, and that is because more people would do it, knowing they could upgrade their cards. For example I have 9 Redemptions in my queue, with a BV of around $300. I would gladly trade all 9 redemptions up for "Panarin, Ghost, Draisaitl, Kane and Price" cards of the same BV. I imagine I would not be the only one.

You blame UD for not making you happy, but you have to understand the devil you know and maximizing the chance of a positive result from your situation.

They did combine BVs, and wrote it on the redemption sheet they sent back to me, so you don't know what you are talking about.

And its funny that you side with Upper Deck here, who was the one who put the redemption card in the pack, and then didn't follow through with their committment to give me the card the redemption was for after nearly two years. In most lines of business, the customer gets a say in the replacement of an unsatisfactory product. You seem to think that Upper Deck should just be able to give me whatever junk they feel like getting rid of. I gave them a list of 5 players, at least 3 of which had live cards.

There are plenty of ways for Upper Deck to handle this.
1. Get the redemptions signed
2. Give a list of options for replacements
3. Ask for a list of players, AND THEN ACTUALLY GIVE THE CUSTOMER THE PLAYERS THEY ASK FOR
4. Give the customer a bunch of garbage they don't want after making them wait two years

You are cool with 4. I am not.

Where did I say I agree with point 4?

I said, save yourself getting crap by requesting players that match the hobby values and are in your PC.
I have a Sam Bennett Redemption, if I ask for a replacement of it, I'll ask for a different Sam Bennett card or some other Flame that matches his BV. If I request "Panarin, Ghost, Draisaitl, Kane and Price", I'll probably get none of those players because their cards go for more than Bennetts and ultimately be un-happy with what they send.

I'm trying to help other people that have redemptions that they want to replace temper their expectations of what they should ask for.

You may have different expectations of what UD should send you, and ultimately, you are the one that got sent "crap". I'm not siding with UD, I'm just realistic of what to expect from them.

And what do you think I was doing by posting my experience? Do you think that was encouraging him to ask for those players? No, it was clearly a cautionary tale.
Also, you said "I think heeding Hama's advice would make people happier."
Hama's advice was "asking for the big guys like Gretzky, Crosby, Matthews, McDavid and Roy generally won't happen, so temper your expectations. I've found that asking for second star tier players or rookies who aren't on everyone's wantlists are more likely to be fulfilled." I didn't ask for any of those players. I asked for players I thought were secondary star tier players: Kane and Price. I asked for rookies who aren't on everyone's want lists: Ghost, Panarin and Draisaitl (this was in Jan or Feb). I had already been sent a Draisaitl FW and figured they should have plenty of them. My PC players for that RC year were Reinhart, Hayes and Duclair. And two of those were players they were replacing. There were no Reinhart redemptions. I guess I could have asked for junk and gotten it, but then I would have just gotten junk and have no reason to complain.

ok, I don't want to argue anymore. Just agree to disagree on this.

For future reference.

UD does hold back all cards for QC/Replacements. So if you had ask for Reinhart, they would have had Reinhart cards which I think you would have gotten.

I had damaged Auto cards before, and they replaced them with the same card, just different serial numbers. They would also use them for redemption replacements.

Taking this in a slightly different direction, how long, on average does it take to get your redeemed card in the mail from UD? I know some guy's wait an eternity, but on average how long does it take? Does it have more to do with certain player's not signing quick enough? How are Monahan and Marner for getting stuff back to UD?

Thanks,

Collin

This isnt my first redemption issue so i know "how to play the game"....I wouldn't ask for a big name for a wanna be NHLr in Duclair and Hayes cards but the Duclair is out of 10 so i will be sure to request something similiar in numbering.

What pisses me off is that Duclair signed signature sensation cards for upper deck this year but hasn't fulfilled cards from two or three years ago.....Sounds like the cards arent made or got lost in a sand dune.

Odd since Duclair has UD Signatures from 2015-16 Series 2 pack inserted (I pulled one...... no brag here)

Those are sticker autos - so those probably they have the labels to make them - the SPA and the Cup? WHo knows how many he signed - there are some players who only sign as much as they feel like or when they feel like it - and then send in what they have.

Some players like Crosby will have it scheduled, maybe they only do it once or twice a year - but are good about doing it and you know that it's coming - just when the signing happens is the only factor.
