As I'm sure comes through, UD's SP Authentic line is - by far - my favorite line in sports cards. The assembly of this particular set has reflected the major transition in the way I collect; it started as mostly hits from my own breaks, to exclusively cards purchased in the secondary market.
In 2018-19 when I was still opening in scale, SPA included what is - to me - among the coolest sub-sets that they've done in hockey ever with great card design, all on-card autos and limited to some of the very best players (as well as some very good, if not great players), all differentiated by decade in which these players made their mark.
Some players had major impacts in more than one decade and are included accordingly.
While it's not the same, this set is to me at least a quasi-equivalent of the Topps Ring of Honor series in football - i.e., a multi-year release set of on card autos that captured among the best players from the last 50-60 years.
Some of these were quite difficult to find - to the tune of 1:58,831 odds (!) for some of them. That and there are four different Gretzky autos among a number of other highly collected players.
I hope you'll share my view that this is an awesome set and please keep an eye out for me for the final few...!
