UD what a bummer

hi folks,
just recieved a box of rookie udate ,cracked opened the box, got a redemption card of joe thornton and jeff carter ,dual auto went to redeem it and of course it had a expiry date 2008. do you think i have a chance of getting it redeemed if i call them up?????:mad::mad::mad:

Redeem it anyway. They've probably still got them in stock. Worst to worst, they'll have to swap it out. If it's a big issue, phone them first 1-800-873-7332.
 
If it's expired you may be SOL. Like Steve said, you can redeem it and/or call. It can't hurt to ask. I think all of redemptions from the 05-06 products are pretty much expired though... The one exception may be The Cup. I think I remember hearing somewhere that those were still being honored... Not sure though. GL with your redemption. Mike
 
There was an extension granted on 05-06 Cup items, I know that much. There was a minor kerfuffle started after somebody on eBay posted up the Andrei Kostitsyn redemption card before it was announced that AK46 had finally gotten the replacement batch signed, but it turned out that the deadline had been extended.
 
Honestly, you could call and see if they'll honor it, but I don't think it's worthy of too much fuss if they tell you it's expired. Regardless of how much hate there may be for how the redemption system works, there are expiry dates for a reason. Expecting them to ignore them is throwing gasoline on an already out of control blaze in my opinion.
 
I opened a case of 05-06 The Cup a while ago and opened a Kostitsyn Rookie Rainbow redemption. It expired July '08 but I put the code in online and received the card no problems.
 
I disagree with redemption expirations. You bought and payed for, in good faith, these cards with the assumption that you would receive a certain card if pulled. If Upperdeck promises this card in a pack it should be honoured or replaced with one of equal value regardless of when it was packed out. They aren't going to demand an actual auto card back because the cards are out of date. Simply put if the card is in a pack you should receive it or a replacement end of story. The only thing that would relieve the company of their obligation is bankruptcy.
 
I understand the concept of expirations but would love to know BEFORE ripping a product if the redemptions are still live. In the future before ripping any older wax, I plan to ask around to see if the redemptions are still live and only pay the appropriate price for the wax.

The Kostitsyn cards are different since it took 3 years for UD to finally get them out to anyone, unlike the redemption card being talked about. Having said that, I fully agree that you should try and see if UD will redeem your card even tho' it's well after the expiry date. Since redemption cards are no surprise to anyone in the hobby, I expect anyone opening older wax likely knows they're taking their chances if they pull a redemption card.
 
I've got to echo the sentiment that communication on redemption expiry dates should be front and center on the package and website. If you're going to continue to stick us with them, at least have the decency to notify someone when the value disappears out of the product.

At the very least they should have (and they used to), a spot where you can go and check the expiry /revised expiry dates. That way you know what you're getting in to on the secondary market. I know, I know, what do they care about the secondary market, but it would be good hobby vibes...

I believe the standard rule of redemption shelf life is either two or three years. So it's not that difficult to figure it out. Worst case, you call UD before you buy, that way you don't get burned.

Well, you just generalized with believe, and two years is a little different than three years, so you are getting my point, I would think. Compounded with the fact that they bumped all expiries from 05-06 by months, and in the Case of the Cup, by a year, shows that a place on the site where updates can be posted would be a hobbyist asset.

Actually maybe you should read my post again. They USED to post this stuff. Along with Redemption ratios and other useful hobby tools. Now they don't. I suggested that it would again be a good idea. Is guessing two or three years, waiting for replies that never come, or sitting on hold, better options? I think not.

A standard is two, or three, not two or three. So it is that difficult.

To make it easy, why not just say that all 08/09 redemptions expire January 1, 2011 or something similar? Yes, the early products are live longer, but so what? At least everyone knows the date.

The other probelm though is then knowing which cards are redemptions, and I don't think there is an easy solution for that.

The easy solution is to post the exact number of redemptions in the product, followed by the total value of those redemptions, divide them to get an average price for a redemption, then the % chance of hitting a redemption in the product, and voila you have the exact value (on average) of what you are screwed on that box, by having redemptions, after the redemption date! :D
