Your starting center from your Anaheim Ducks is.....Jonathan Toews???

Thank god this is for a minor card, I mean its not like its a top 3 rookie and a card thats going to be wanted. Plus I mean there was so many of them made (10) to check for QC...:|:|:| Smooth UD smooth...

Chris feel free to try to explain this one lol

Sweet looking Bobby Ryan/Drew Miller or Jonas Hiller patches though! That's a big goof all the same... tsk, tsk.

Absolutely disgusting...Nobody seems to care of the tens or perhaps even hundreds of impossibility's in cards featuring a piece of memorabilia definitly not from a team the player has never played for.

This hobby is starting to look like a joke.

Chris all of those meetings with collectors are really starting to pay off, I mean their QC and attention to detail has gone up substantially as of late... lol. This is why I find it to be a joke whenever someone tries to stick up for UD for any reason, they are a complete joke. You would think they were the amateurs without the nhl license, instead they are allowed to pass these off like it's no big deal.

Jeremy not only is it acceptable but it's accepted. The card is already on ebay and will trade hands 4 or 5 times before UD even acknowledges that the card in question is even an error. This is nothing new, but the disturbing part is it keeps getting worse and worse every year. And whenever a collector speaks up 3 UD fans will jump down their throat. Well there you go folks, good job.

It could be event worn. lol. Ran out of Toews jerseys and said oh we have a extra duck one, put it on, take a couple steps give it to us.

No wonder I broke 3 boxes of Series 2 and thats it this year. I think next year I will break even less.

I used to love collecting cards, now why? How do I know the cards I even have are even of the player shown?

Way to ruin the hobby. Upper Deck sucks, no pity story from a single UD employee trying their hardest can continue to win me over.

How about next time you get an oil change and they accidentally put coolant in instead of oil. Lets see you all laugh it off and come back again next time. Seriously the time to boycott Upper Deck is NOW!!!!!!!!!

Vinny...UM....You have been rather Hostile of late. :curse: We ALL agree that this hobby has many issues, but you really seem to be taking this to heart. So am I right in assuming that you no longer collect cards mainly because of UD? It is one thing to point out errors/mistakes but to be as angry as you have come off in numerous posts recently, makes me a bit confused. I think Stephen needs to give you a HUG.:D
I am not going to speak for or defend Chris, since he is a big boy and can do that for himself. Having said that, seems like whenever there is a UD problem of some sort, Chris gets dragged into it. What am I missing here? Last I checked, Chris was not on UD payroll. Even though in my opinion he should be, since he gets me more UD answers than anybody who works at UD. I have read some of Chris breaks and he always calls it as he sees it. Good or Bad. I was shocked he recently made a tirade after a horrible break about UD. He posted it here but he even posted it on the Diamond Club forums on UD site. That was kinda of Ballsy IMO.
In closing, I agree there are many things wrong in this hobby, but I just choose to enjoy the many Good things too come from it. The passion some of us have in collecting our favorite players and card sets. The numerous other collectors I have met and now consider great Friends. When normal life is tough, I find this board in general to be a nice break from reality. Is this hobby perfect? Far from it but I personally feel I will always want to be a part of it, no matter what.

Hey Mark, naw I am harmless it's not taking it to heart just more so constructive criticism :D. Believe it or not I am always in a good mood. The hobby is supposed to be fun, for the most part it still is but the major player is sucking the fun out of busting wax. If this was a smalltime company it wouldn't be such a huge deal but hockey pretty much revolve around what UD decides to do. There is always ITG but without the license they really aren't even an option for many people who collect. I think UD needs people pointing out their larger errors, I mean even when this is done nothing really happens. If 1 day UD decides to not only read the posts here but start taking them seriously the hobby in general would be a much better place. I know many people get tired of hearing the QC, Redemption, Oops errors but you know what will stop or atleast slow them down? FIX THEM!! Or how about making an attempt into fixing them. Everyone knows the move of their new plant was a bad one, so we went from bad to worse. What is next?

I kid with Chris about the whole UD thing, I never personally attack him or anything. I know he isn't a UD employee, although it would make sense with that UD tattoo I am sure he has somewhere lol. The whole me/chris/ud thing has deep roots from long ago ;)

Vegaspuck Chris, Collector Liason/Upper Deck Apologist :D

You know...you're right. Why do I need the tag? I should just fend for myself with UD from here on out. I should be more worried about my collection instead of what I've been doing. And instead of trying to help others with their issues like I've been doing for well over a year now, I'll let them deal with UD themselves. Thanks for the eye opener. I definitely needed one.

So please, no more PM's asking who my "UD contacts" are. No more asking what you should do or what you should ask for. Find another 'UD Apologist' to do the work for you.

And in turn, instead of trying to explain some of the UD issues that I know the reasons for, I'll just keep my mouth shut and let the never-ending bashing and random guessing continue.

Frankly, Chris - these problems exist whether you discuss them or not. Your insight has only pointed to the same set of issues we're all painfully aware of - poor customer service - especially in matters of redemption, and the failures of a company whose products reflect a greater interest in their immediate profits rather than building interest through quality.

I'm not sure how useful Upper Deck contacts are when they know what their problems are, lie to their customers regularly, and have a QA process that omits both quality AND assurance.

I don't doubt you've been a collector for a long time. You of all people should be able to recognize a downward trend when you see one. While there's some sound minds at Upper Deck coming up with a handful of creative set ideas each year, the execution - whether it's patches or swatches that don't have pertinence to the player, incorrect signatures, or the appearance of having gone through a wood chipper before being packed - plain sucks, and appears to be getting worse.

Upper Deck has done a successful job of creatively pushing the bounds of what they can extract from people's wallets for products. For that, they could be applauded. It's time to let someone else take the ball and run with it, because the Upper Deck release calendar has been loaded with fumbles this year.

I think we've all learned by now that UD will sweep their QC issues under the rug whether or not Mr. Liaison brings it to their attention or not ;)

Define "weak personal attack".

We'll go with "Grown ups whine this much?"

Perhaps UD's ballooned sense of importance isn't what needs to be popped. But the collectors' ballooned sense of self that keep buying the product. Every time I order a case or buy a box of the product, I know what I'm getting myself into. I enjoy the hobby enough not to let these issues ruin it for me. I'm willing to deal with delayed redemptions of players I want. I can handle error cards in all shapes and forms. I can live with getting a replacement if my card isn't made. I can even deal with my damaged cards not being replaced a month after the product's released.

You're about half-right. You're working with the hypothesis that the customer needs to expect these things; they don't. While some of us are hardcore, the casual customer who treats this purely as a hobby may not know why Black Diamond quality sucks year after year because of border chipping, or that they cannot remember when Jonathan Toews played for the Ducks because he didn't. Upper Deck needs to be taken down a few pegs. However, this is a hobby, and not a South American drug trade - no one's going to band together and attempt a coup because this doesn't change our way of living.

Why? Because my enjoyment of the hobby far exceeds all those issues. If yours doesn't...maybe you're in the wrong hobby. Should I have to deal with the issues? Of course not. But when you buy something with an UD logo on the box, you have to know the possiblity of problems occuring are high.

I'm not in the wrong hobby; but I have been doing it wrong. Dropping over $20,000 on Upper Deck products in 2007 isn't a great way to vote with my dollar - but it's looking like I'll be down under $2000 for 2008. A $18000 differential is significant - it's probably what two of their packagers take home in a year.

I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is - so to speak. I'll gladly give up any and all Upper Deck cards in my collection for a fair offer, and use the proceeds to buy competing products.

-Michael
