BEWARE OF TONEY'S CRACK...that ish was nasty.

weigh-ins are on now at ufc.com but requires MS silverlight.

They actually did show the weigh-ins live on spike as well. James Toney is fat. Whatever happens tomorrow happens, but you will never convince me that he trained for this fight. This is the heaviest he has ever weighed for any fight. He obviously doesn't respect Randy at all to come in looking like this.

He's a boxer living in a boxer's world. The jewelry he wore to the pressers and scrums were more expensive than the lifetime incomes of many of these fighters. He stands to make up to a million dollars off this fight, which I have little belief will bring in that much additional income to the UFC from boxing fans (I wouldn't pay $50 for a boxing card where I had to sit through a bunch of matches I didn't give 3 ****s about while waiting for a Randy Couture/James Toney boxing match for example.)

Honestly, I don't really consider this to be a "boxing vs. MMA match" the same way that Inoki/Ali represented boxing vs. wrestling. Toney's not out there proving anything but self-endorsement. Of course, it sounds like I have something against Toney, which I don't. I just haven't seen him hyping his sport to be superior as much himself as a superior athlete.

Possibly one of the worst cards in recent UFC history. BJ Penn threatens to be a decent match but the Toney match should be over fast and only really answer one question, in which I already knew the answer.

In the Octagon with MMA rules, MMA > Boxing. In the Boxing ring with Boxing rules Boxing > MMA. Seriously I would be shocked if Toney isn't on his back tapping or choked out really really fast. Similarly if Couture entered the boxing ring he would likely get pummeled to a pulp.

you're not intrigued by the maynard/florian fight? the winner to be in contention for the title? similarly, are you not interested in the demian maia fight? i'm a huge maia fan so maybe i'm outside of the norm. :owned:

toney has a slight chance if the fight remains standing, never underestimate his punches. couture will need to go for the takedown and sub/GnP right away.

boxing is such a joke but good for tony to get into the octagon.. hopefully this inspires some athletes from the dying sport of boxing to learn a ground game and become part of mma

BJ looked like he knew he was going to lose right from the introductions. Talk about a lack of heart.

total domination.

Card played out exactly as I predicted...

- Diaz in the FOTN, which I predicted since he always comes to party like the gangsta he is, plus a really lack of pop in all the other combatants on the card...
- Maia/Miranda, Maynard/Florian both rather slow and boring as expected...
- Toney rolls over without as much as throwing a punch, as expected, Randy is only a draw to TUF fans who still cling to his "legacy"...
- BJ with no heart and rolling over was the only really thing I didn't expect. Still I all but knew the fight was over at about round 3, which makes for a slow finish.

Overall probably one of the worst cards of the year, or at least in recent memory, although as I say that and look to the future things look pretty bleak as far as PPVs go. I love CroCop, but I cannot get excited for him in the main event anymore. The only thing left to see is if Mir has totally disintegrated since obsessing over Lesnar.

This about sums it up for me too. That card was awful. There wasn't even one fight on the card that I would hope may show up on UFC Unleashed outside of Couture/Toney since I assume they'll be milking that op as much as possible for years to come.

I've also been confused as of late as to why the UFC has been seeding matches on a card the way they have.

Why would you put the Boston guys 1-2 on the opening card and then lead into the main events with Damian Maia vs. Mario Miranda? How does Miranda's domination of David Loiseau countered by Maia's been dominated by Anderson Silva give either guy the advantage of getting booked higher on a card than two hometown favorites? I mean...I kind of understood why they put Clay Guida/Dos Anjos before the main events at the last card over a #1 contender and Matt Hughes match (given that any Clay Guida match is the equivalent of a bra and panties match in WWE wrestling terms -- He gets the crowd riled up and fired up for the main events) but seriously...why wouldn't you throw the Kenny Florian fight in before the mains?

Byron, I disagree about your bit about Randy not being a draw. I look at Randy as basically the equivalent in MMA to Hulk Hogan in pro wrestling in terms of being the overall poster child for the sport (and hell, almost in age too.) As long as Randy's fighting, people will continue to flock and watch. I personally...I'm not a big fan of TUF, but will continue to watch Randy as long as he's able to walk into the Octagon. I get a kick out of the fact that he's able to do what he does how he does it at his age. Normally, you'd expect someone in his age range to be perfoming like Mark Coleman did, but he's just as energetic and capable as anybody 20 years younger than him.

I know Randy is a draw, which was kind of my point. He is a draw and I don't really think he should still be. At least not a top draw. I mean realistically he will fight gimmicks (like this PPV), or give mes (like Crop Cop has been until the Berry, and now Mir fights), or young up and comers who can try to use his fame to elevate their own status. Your comparison is very accurate with the Hulk Hogan comparison assuming you mean the later years Hulk Hogan.

Surprisingly...I did.

Hogan's still a mid-level draw that will always be in the title hunt based on legacy whether hardcore fans like it or not, much like Randy is and probably always will be. I think Randy's the kind of guy that's smart enough to shut 'er down when he's finally been licked for good, which hasn't happened yet. I fully expect him to be toiling away in the midcard till at least his 50th birthday, with the odd main event fight on an off card (like a free to air Spike card.)

Aside from the Joe Lauzon fight, rather ho-hum about the evening.

Going to try to find somewhere to watch Cro-Cop/Mir for free - Matt, I hear Starlight casino has a great lounge (right behind the main bar in the casino) just need to get there early and supposedly no cover.
