Announcement is official. July 21st for the UFC in Calgary. Toronto and Montreal will have events by the end of this year, and all 3 will have events next year as well.

Jose Aldo vs. TBD will be the main event, while the co-main event is supposed to be pretty big as well. Dana White proposed Shogun vs. Hendo II, but Henderson turned it down. I don't blame him.

Wasn't able to make it down today. Apparently there were over 1000 people packed into Flames Central, some drove from as far as Red Deer and started lining up at 6:00 A.M., I've been reading and hearing that Pettis may drop to 145lbs., don't know he'd get an immediate title shot even if he did. But he does not have a dance partner at 155 with the latest announcements. The front runner for Aldo's opponent has to be Hioki though.

Pettis announced today he's getting surgery while he waits for the title picture at lightweight to get sussed out, so he's on the shelf for a bit.

EDIT: Confirmation of Showtime's surgery:

Anthony Pettis ‏ @Showtimepettis
Minor surgery on my shoulder be back stronger than ever!!! Love all my followers and fans!!!

I agree the best bet right now for Aldo's title shot is Hioki. Barring a very quick Poirier/Jung fight of course. If one of them gets a quick win and no medical suspension, I could see the winner of that fight getting Aldo ASAP.

As I was standing in the airport last Wednesday morning waiting to head on my vacation I noticed on the front page of the Sun and nearly lost my mind when on the front page they were reporting that Jon Jones would be defending his title on the Calgary card. I really don't see that happening; however, that would be bananas.

Picking Erick Koch to fight Aldo next seems like an odd selection. I believe that he needs more seasoning, and fights under his belt to truly be a credible threat to Aldo. Why don't they want to put the two best featherweights in the world? I want to see Aldo/Hioki.

This card is really coming together, and looks very strong with the reported fights to take place.

Jose Aldo (21-1-0) #1 ranked Featherweight vs. Erick Koch (13-1-0)
Michael Bisping (22 - 4 - 0) #4 ranked Middleweight vs. Tim Boetsch (15 - 4 - 0) #6 ranked Middleweight
Thiago Silva (14 - 3 - 0) vs. Mauricio Rua (20 - 6 - 0) #4 ranked Light Heavyweight
Cheick Kongo (17 - 7 - 2) vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33 - 7 - 1) #7 ranked Heavyweight
Aaron Simpson (11 - 3 - 0) vs. Jon Fitch (23 - 4 - 1) #5 ranked Welterweight
Thiago Alves (19 - 9 - 0) vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama (13 - 5 - 0)
Ryan Jimmo (16 - 1 - 0) vs. Anthony Perosh (13 - 6 - 0)
George Roop (12 - 9 - 1) vs. Antonio Carvalho (13 - 5 - 0)
Mitch Clarke (9 - 1 - 0) vs. Anton Kuivanen (16 - 5 - 0)
Court McGee (14 - 2 - 0) vs. Nick Ring (12 - 1 - 0)
Bryan Caraway (16 - 5 - 0) vs. Mitch Gagnon (8 - 1 - 0)

There's room for one more fight on the card with the way things usually go. I imagine it will either be Jon Jones / Dan Henderson (though I hear that might be a UFC 150 thing alongside the Edgar/Bendo rematch) or something completely off the board since that's a pretty good looking main card already.

Dave...Koch was the only available choice for Aldo after Hioki declined and said he needed another fight or two to be ready for a title shot (he's now fighting Ricardo Lamas in July.) Poirier and Zombie have promised to beat the **** out of each other week after next, so I'm anticipating the worry of medical suspensions put the winner vs. Aldo on ice

Right now, I'm thinking the card looks like this:

Main Card
Jose Aldo (21-1-0) #1 ranked Featherweight vs. Erick Koch (13-1-0)
Michael Bisping (22 - 4 - 0) #4 ranked Middleweight vs. Tim Boetsch (15 - 4 - 0) #6 ranked Middleweight
Thiago Silva (14 - 3 - 0) vs. Mauricio Rua (20 - 6 - 0) #4 ranked Light Heavyweight
Cheick Kongo (17 - 7 - 2) vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33 - 7 - 1) #7 ranked Heavyweight
Aaron Simpson (11 - 3 - 0) vs. Jon Fitch (23 - 4 - 1) #5 ranked Welterweight

Fuel TV Prelims
Thiago Alves (19 - 9 - 0) vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama (13 - 5 - 0)
Court McGee (14 - 2 - 0) vs. Nick Ring (12 - 1 - 0)
Ryan Jimmo (16 - 1 - 0) vs. Anthony Perosh (13 - 6 - 0)
Bryan Caraway (16 - 5 - 0) vs. Mitch Gagnon (8 - 1 - 0)

Facebook Prelims
George Roop (12 - 9 - 1) vs. Antonio Carvalho (13 - 5 - 0)
Mitch Clarke (9 - 1 - 0) vs. Anton Kuivanen (16 - 5 - 0)
One more fight

There's still room for Patrick Cote...hehe :D

man..this card is falling apart at the seams. Alves, Shogun and Silva as well as Sexyama all gone. Hopefully, they have two big names that will replace these lost fights.

Don't forget Bisping, who is off the card as of last night.

Here is the updated card thus far:

Featherweight José Aldo (c) vs Erik Koch
Heavyweight Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cheick Kongo
Middleweight Tim Boetsch vs Hector Lombard
Welterweight Siyar Bahadurzada vs Chris Clements

Preliminary Card

Middleweight bout Court McGee vs Nick Ring
Featherweight George Roop vs Antonio Carvalho
Bantamweight Bryan Caraway vs Mitch Gagnon
Lightweight Mitch Clarke vs Anton Kuivanen
Light Heavyweight Ryan Jimmo vs Anthony Perosh
Bantamweight Bibiano Fernandes vs Roland Delorme
Welterweight Claude Patrick vs James Head

My feeling is that rather than book a new main card fight, they have one of two choices:

1) Move Perosh/Jimmo to the main card (not recommended) and book another prelim fight.
2) Considering moving, like Cung Le vs. Pat Cote to the main card of this event, though UFC 148's once ridiculous main card is starting to get a bit ratty now too in comparison to what it was before.

What I think they're going to end up doing is moving James Te-Huna (since Brandon Vera was pulled from his fight) and sticking him here against somebody. Who that somebody is though...no idea.

I was under the impression Fitch/Simpson (now Robertson/Simpson) was at this event the whole time. I have no idea when it was moved and how I missed it.

Good on Clements for stepping up, but he's almost certainly going to get straight murked by Bahadurzada. I was really looking forward to seeing the Bisping/Boetsch fight. But I think having Lombard step in will make for a much more entertaining fight.

I think that replacing Shogun with any of Menjivar/Easton, Le/Cote, Mendes/McKenzie would be great. Or any other new match Joe Silva/Sean Shelby come with.

I don't think the card is much worse off. I think that most of the replacements that they have come up with thus far have made for better fights than the ones originally scheduled.

It is official, every main card fight that was originally scheduled has been changed as Big Nog has pulled out of his fight (replaced by Shaun Jordan) to face Kongo. I was reading an article in the paper last week that talked about how it's now becoming a meme that whenever a fighter pulls out of a fight due to injury they have gotten 149'd. I have never seen a single card incur this many changes due to injury.
