Here is the swatch from a Joe Thornton Jumbo Emblem

CIMG2464.jpg

Its the edge of the triangle on the front logo, where the Sharks pops out. Notice how the silver that borders the outermost black is thin and how the embroidery stitching is VERY close to each other--as are the underlying layers of black, and then teal.

Here is the swatch from a Nabokov Limited Logos, the swatch in question

Now, the silver that borders the outermost layer of black in VERY thick, and the embroidery stitches are very far apart. When it comes to the inner most layer of teal, its not even close to being the same type of material that is on the Thornton piece. It reminds me of a swatch of emblem thats been emblazened on a replica jersey.

.....opinions?

I need to go check the return policy on the ebay auction. If there isn't one specified, do I have grounds for a claim of some sort?

I tend to think not, mainly on the strength of ITG's record and reputation with game used.

Assuming of course that you got the card in the original holder with intact seal.

I'd like to see the comparison against another white jersey instead of the teal where they may use a different pattern to enhance various aspects of the logo that doesn't show as well on the darker background (jersey).

Bingo. One's a home jersey, and the other is an away jersey. Couple that with the difference in years (Nabby jersey could be from as far back as 99-00 or whatever), you could conceivably have completely different cresting...

The 2nd patch with the turqoise isn't even from the logo of the Sharks, new or old. It can't be. It has to be a number or a shoulder patch of some kind.

I honestly can't figure out what it's from.

I was thinking that. I mean the earlier Sharks jerseys have different materials (I believe the ones from before 02-03) than the ones used now, and before the Sharks changed their new logo. For example, the grey that was on the shoulders before has changed materials once.

That was the only conceivable thing in my mind. It was just weird to me that they weren't the same.

if i remember correclty, the marleau patch from the cup looked very similar to the nabby..i think its legit.i even think it came from a 02-03 or 03-04 jersey, the one with shiny silver sleeves..or even year 2000 jerseys.i have a year 2000 jersey (with patch on chest,if you want a picture of it,i can take it for you.

hi jonathan-

i checked my jerseys, but the only one i have customized is a white one.the other teal is non customized.i checked the shark patch, and the nabby is deffinately not that.i have to think its part of the name plate, which i dont have one to compare.

It can't be a name plate because the turqoise jersey had white letters/numbers, as did the black.

Initially I thought it was the V in Nabokov but then the swatch of jersey fabric would have to be white because the V is in turqoise.

You'd have to be dealing with an exceptionally good patch faker IMO. Look at the edges of the die cut patch space - it looks perfect, yet the thickest stitching of the patch seems to go right up into it, and even right under it. Many fake suspected fake patches that I have seen have some (sometimes very minimal) evidence in the edges of the die cut. I can't see how someone could get that patch back in that space without leaving some trace on the edges. But maybe those fakers are just smarter than me.

It's probably not a fake in the sense that someone replaced the patch with another one, but the question is, where is that swatch of patch/jersey coming from?

The fact that the jersey portion AND the patch portion both contain turquoise is a mystery to me. Any nameplate or number would have alternating white/turqoise between the patch & jersey. The Sharks logo & shoulder patch do not contain that much blue. To top it off, the stitching itself looks suspect. The threads and stitches lack the quality of any patch I've seen on any NHL jersey

anyone have a Sharks limited logos from this set (using a sharks swatch) that I can compare to? I remember seeing a Cheechoo that looked similarly awkward...

Just look at the stick part of the swatch, the color is way off. Its not even actual stitching and looks almost like a patch someone would iron on.

Is that patch confirmed fake? I saw a Cheechoo from the same set that looked similarly questionable to me. Looked "iron on-ish". Not the typical material of a game worn JSY.

Perhaps its an UD mishap....or someone out there is faking ALL the Sharks patches--at least all the ones I have seen.
