I don't know if they'd be considered true rookies, but more so considered rookie parallels, similiar to what serial numbered parallels versions of the same rookie cards are labelled? I still think they are cool, but I myself don't consider them rookie cards. Maybe others disagree?

No, they are not officially consider rookies. Canvas would be an insert set that feature some rookies.
