Upper Deck does it again...

Upper Deck can make 100 mistakes on same set with Series 1 or 2 but still sells like butter in sunshine, a bit too many huge mistakes from UD at lately.....

But well so long they sells so it doesn't matter sadly, maybe only just one people works at Upper Deck's QC-staff, if it's so with instance, so not that strange then.....

Many of UD's products has gotten much more expensive during this season just because of the 15-16 RC-class, so their QC should been a lot better than this then plus many of their products has been delayed a quite bit but still gets too many mistakes!

<sarcasm>--UD Quality Control...It is a Hockey card and features a Hockey player....

Amazing...guess it's time to bring back the ole 1970ish airbrush jobs to correct errors..

Has UD been made aware of these mistakes yet? If so what was their response?

I sent a tweet to @UpperDeckHockey last night re: the Anderson and received the following reply:

Correct, it was an error discovered too late in the production process to pull and fix.

Which leads to another question. Why not print a list of known QA issues, like they did with the missing High Gloss foil. Although, these Easter Egg hunts are kinda fun ;-)

Anyone have a scan of the back of the Anderson? Curious whose bio is listed.
Could their mistake actually produce a fully accurate unlicensed card?

People can't seem to remember the grammatical difference between using the correct forms of there/they're/their, then/than, your/you're, lose/loose...much less spell the names of the very players they claim to collect correctly and no one bats an eye.

UD makes a few mistakes on cards that people will buy anyway and "collectors" lose their minds!

Jesus Christ...so they made an error...or two...or one hundred. If it ruffles feathers that much, then quit collecting.

We're human. So is Upper Deck. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Actually I am not buying the POE for Sam Bennett, because that isn't Sam Bennett in the picture.

In my work, I strive to put out a service that is 100%. Why can't I expect the same from UD?

It is really simple from the UD side, they should have just announced the errors that were in the set and acknowledged them. I think that would be a step in the right direction already.

If they really want people to be happy, they could announce a solution to fix the issue. For example, submit your Young Gun High Gloss cards in exchange for a corrected one. Submit your POE Sam Bennett card in exchange for a corrected one. Would that be feasible? I have no idea since I don't work for them and I'm not familiar with the printing process.

Perhaps it will hit their bottom line too much. It will depend on their internal strategies, some companies would take a hit to ensure their reputation isn't tarnished.

I just never understood these comments of "just stop complaining or quit collecting" on a product that they purchased. If everybody stopped complaining, would the quality of the cards go up or down?

Do you think UD being made aware of the issues of the POE pictures would ensure that they would double/triple check the pictures for next's year set?

+1 - well said!

"One" question only...

Has you accepted if you got a Lizzie McGuire DVD movie instead of The Martian Blu-ray or Barbie the game to PS2 instead of GTA5 to PS4 when you opens the case of the movie/game when you bought it then?
Or will you just shrugging about it because mistakes like this happens sometimes, yes that's true but not that acceptable if it's actually your job as a staff for the quality control team.

It's pretty baffling that UD's so called quality control staff has done many awfully big mistakes during this season, at my job if you makes 2-3 small mistakes or 1 huge mistake so you're fired, 130% finito then.

How difficult is it to double or triple checking that every cards has correct image of the player as example before printing them, it's absolutely nothing compared with my job which you must checking at E-V-E-R-Y products to ensure that it's correct movie in every DVD/Blu-ray cases or correct cd in every music cd jewel cases, or correct games in every PS4, XBOXone, WiiU, 3DS, PC cases etc...it's millions and millions products for every month we're talking about and then distribute it to all countries of Scandinavia....how many unique different cards is it in UD Series 2 as comparison but yet already 2 big mistakes?

We has as customers all right to complaining about it, or maybe not in your world? So the companies can do exactly what they wants then if none complains about the quality especially when UD brags that so much about many things but seldom delivers the quality who equals to their bragging.

Fake diamonds on cards which is labeled with of having real diamonds on them, uh-oh that's pure fake marketing.....not that great, Upper Deck seriously, to having monopoly doesn't menas that you can getting sloppy with QC then and ignoring to learn their own mistakes and improving themselves but they yet continues to making same mistakes again and again.
If this continues for some years so UD will for sure lose a lot of customers in the end if UD still keeping up with their nonchalant attitude....

I'm absolutely not any Upper Deck hater, I loves to collecting their cards and their cards is prior number 1 when collecting cards with my mainly PC-guy now, but seriously waaaay too many mistakes from their side at lately now, so please improve everything now!

I think for me this boils down to what is worth complaining about. Wrong photo...name spelled wrong...these are honest errors. It is not McDavid or Eichel, so guess what....not going to be reprinted! If these were players I collected, I would likely still buy it because i think error cards can be conversation pieces.

Misleading customers is another thing! Inserting diamonds into cards and calling them lab made...your empty soda bottles are worth more in deposit refund than the 'god-knows-what' that is glued onto the black diamond rookies. This is shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaady business!

At the end of the day, you have to pick your battles. Probably not going to send a steak back if it is missing 3-4 pepper granules or 1 shade of pink off. I will however send it back if it smells like fish and is painted steak colour.

There was a blog once upon a time....

It's still accessible via web.archive.org . I won't post a direct link out of courtesy to the blog owner, but yes, a modern version would be just as entertaining.

Ironically, here is the intro from the blog back in 2007. Still holds true today?

======================
Welcome to the UD Hockey Card Error Blog!
Starting in 2004-05, the Upper Deck (UD) trading card company signed an exclusive license with the NHL and NHLPA to become the sole producer of NHL cards. I don't want to use this blog as a reason why this is wrong. What I want to do is show how UD is inadequate to hold such a license unless things start to change. This blog is purely for showing the lack of attention to detail that UD has given to the hobby with their exclusive license. Hopefully, by educating collectors, UD will take notice and actually put more effort into their future products. Can a sole producer of trading cards work? Probably. But if we're forced to buy UD products due to the exclusive license, then they should be forced to a higher standard

One thing a lack of competition in a market does is allow the provider of the products to become lazier and disinterested. The consumer suffers. Not the producer.

The cards I want to show collectors are not ones that are in doubt, but ones that are blatantly incorrect. Cards that leave you scratching your head wondering how that happened or how the card ever got past their Quality Assurance department.

Hopefully this helps educate fellow hockey card collectors and one day causes UD to retool their card making process.

Putta Playername is still my favourite

Negative. Upper Deck is an evil robot housed in an underground lair deep within the greater San Diego area. It has 14 arms and a computer brain powerful enough to mess with collectors just enough to keep their money and their souls.

Also, they're a company, comprised of many humans. I work for a company in which quality control matters a bit more, apparently. Putting labels on upside-down on expensive merchandise wouldn't fly.

And I'll always be good with sinning and stoning. :)

That is pretty bad quality control for Upper Deck. Research your photos! Because the player is wearing a cage mask doesn't mean people won't be able to tell. :|

Like this photo...Is this really Kanye West in concert? He could just have a guy out there going through the motions while music/singing is piped into the arena. Mask covers up the fact he isn't really singing. Oh, that's right...that's what he really does anyway.

I try, try, try SO hard not to reply to these things..........and...................ok, I'm in.

I fear for this hobby and it's survival.

That is all.

I get what you're saying. But when someone is paying for a product they expect it to be done properly. UD should provide replacements for the screw up they make.
How a company can continue to make the same mistakes over and over, is beyond me. They fact that they said they knew about it, and failed to say or do anything about it before the release, shows they dont give a rats ***.

Gosh, what happened to the good ol' days of 90-91 Pro Set when every other card had an error... was so excited back in the day to pull my own copy of the misspelled Ray Borque :)

I can't get too worked up over an occasional use of a wrong image - who knows if it was even UD's fault, or the photographer that supplied the images mislabeled them in the first place? I'm sure they can (and probably do) catch a lot of mistakes, but we've all had those times where we've made a mistake and even looking right at it just don't see it until someone else points it out... and in hindsight it looks so obvious once you know it's wrong.

The whole fiasco with a ton of printing plates being stuck in the wrong cardboard a few years back, that was a pretty big fail, but a mistaken photo or two? Stuff happens. Maybe they should just err on the safer side and put "Unidentified hockey player" on everyone's cards :)
