....and it does not look good for products being pushed back!!!!

"The Priority Signings wrapper redemption program will return where fans in attendance who purchase a box of 2011 NHL Parkhurst Champions, 2011-12 NHL Black Diamond, 2011-12 NHL Upper Deck Series Two or 2011-12 NHL SP Game-Used from a Certified Diamond Dealer at the show will receive a voucher."

Where is SPX?? SPA?? BRUTAL if these will not be out by expo.

When asked on facebook about the SPA deficiency in the lineup, the comment by UD was:

"Can't risk it, it's too close and it is possible the date could shift."

Ouch.

I wonder with two companies (and two companies-worth of cards) to sign for now, is it more difficult on the athletes...at least the ones ware are currently playing. All of the brands that UD collapsed down, all of those auto cards seemed to use sticker autos. They didn't really collapse any hard-signed auto brands except for maybe UD Black a couple years ago and OPC, the premium brands with low print runs. On the other hand, RNH has to sign /999 SPA FWs along with all of the Cup cards and then all of Panini's junk too, lol.

I smell a buyout.. panini or ITG taking over Upper Deck LOLOL..

Dr. Price.. you up for it?

"I want many many hard-signed autographs, all live in packs, with on time delivery guaranteed!"
...
"What? You say the players are focused on their careers, and may not be able to churn out a few thousands autographs on command!"
...
"You tell those ****ing primadona mother****ers to get their asses off the ice, outta the gym, or away from their families, grab a pen, and get signing my damn hockey cards!"
...
"Hello?...Hello?...HELLO!?"
...
[Hangs up phone and mumbles to self]: "****ty CS, can't even take the time to listen to their customers."

And the great world keeps on spinning.

Honestly - i love UD products, but seriously...at this point...they should be doing some damage control!!! Fans are talking about them getting sued over and over and over and losing confidence in them - not paying athletes for signing...keep pushing back release dates of some of their key releases...and missing expo for SPX and SPA? Expo will come along...they will be all smiley handing out PS redemption cards - personally...i am gonna walk up the counter and be like...hi Upper Deck! Before i give you another penny, I want you to tell me why you are not paying the athletes for signing? Why are you getting sued so much? Why can't you release any of your key products on time? I want to just lay it on them and see how they respond.

I think the issue with players returning cards based on the past few posts by Paul Lesko may be the fact that they haven't received payment for previous signings. Just a deduction based on what's been reported. Hard to get the egg out on time if the chicken is refusing the rooster.

Joe, I love the fact that you worked hot poultry sex into this. +1.

I don't think anybody in this thread, or many recent ones, has blamed the players for the delays in getting cards done.

They'd only have to do "damage control" if sales fall off.

Hobbyists continuing to buy implies that UD isn't pissing anyone off THAT badly.

It's what it really boils down to though. You can go on and on about UD not paying players and such, but Panini has redemptions too; you gonna tell me they don't pay either.

Fact is, some players, just like everyday people, procrastinate to the point where things don't get done when they should.

You can heap praise on ITG for their over-simplified strategy of not including the autos of players that haven't returned, but the big guns don't really have that option. Many redemptions you see are of superstar players, your Crosbys, Ovechkins, Yzermans, Gretzkys, etc. that, if they were left out, would almost guarantee the product to bomb.

I haven't seen any million-dollar lawsuits against Panini in the past week that claim over 200 players are owed money by the company. Your guess is as good as mine as to why it is that some players are occasional redemptions and some are always redemptions with that particular company. With UD, we've got a more clear picture as to their situation.

Are there individual cases where a player is late getting his stuff done? Absolutely there will be undoubtedly be some. Even Carey Price has been a redemption in one or two products over the years and that dude signs for just about every product for all three companies making hockey cards. But it becomes a chronic situation for the better part of a year that many of the names you mention are redemptions with UD, yet (for those who are not UD Exclusives) have live autographs in ITG and Panini products. There's got to be something more to it than "Crosby is a cunctator who doesn't care about getting his cards done on time." Yeah he's been hurt and probably spending his downtime not signing cards, but the problem with his autos pre-dates his post-Steckel days, IIRC.

Would an UD product bomb if they didn't have the 541st different Sid auto or the 686th Gretzky auto? I severely doubt that. They're nice hits to have on a checklist, sure, but SP Authentic will still sell if they aren't in the Sign of The Times set for umpteenth year in a row. People will still buy the product for the rookies and the numerous other superstars that are included.

Case in point: ITG. No Crosby, Gretzky, Orr autos and yet their products still sell. Why? No redemptions and tons of vintage stuff to chase.
