I was in a few case breaks last night and I did ok. But boy what a terrible product Ultimate has become. With the removal of the Debut patches and the flooding of Puemple Gaunce Stevensson and so on this product is not worth the price tag on it. I watched 3 patches get pulled and 2 were just plain white the best one was a Vatrano.

My question is with this product coming on epack very soon are we going to see the market flooded with these low end Ultimate Jerseys and nobody rookies just like UD1 and UD2.

I heard a story of one guy opening a pack of this stuff and hitting 4 different Sprong autos in one pack. I seen multiple packs were Jared McCann was the first and last card in the pack with a Poirer De La Rose and Bibbeau in the middle.

Almost every card coming out was damages from bad edges and corners to a few were there was even glue across the front of the card from the jersey swatch location.

What a disappointment. UD has watered down the products so much this year in order to print as much as they can and let people keep playing the McDavid Lottery. We as collectors are getting screwed. I understand it is supposed to be about collecting and not the box value but as a collector when you open a couple boxes of each product and you have a pile of Puemple, Poirer, Guance and Justin Faulk Autos it is getting a bit riculous.

We need to stop supporting UD and giving away all our money for junk. As long as the product keeps selling they are not going to make a change.

Easy answer - vote with your wallet. It's unsustainable for just about anyone to open every product - I've learned to pick and choose my spots - but for the most part, it does not involve high end product.

Disappointing yes but the checklist was out long before the product was released. That right there would tell you what you are in store for.
Every year of Ultimate the big cards are very tough. Even more so this year with all of the parallels and 05-06 retro sets.
Just my 2 cents though.

The lack of box breaks on here is pretty telling. I myself only wanted one card from this release and I grabbed the first one to hit eBay so my interest in Ultimate begins and ends there. No way I'd go near the wax.

Yup, this is yet another tough release from UD. I mean Ultimate has always been rough but this year it is all about the rookies from the breaks I have seen. The vet and current star hits are very few and far between.

Now where's the guy who tells us that The Cup won't sell well because Ultimate (and Premier) will be emptying the wallets?

As far as I'm concerned, I haven't seen value in box busting since the 10/11 season. The market is just too flooded with singles from way too many products that people are selling group break lottery tickets for. The manufacturer caters to this.

Could UD be running out of game used items? Seems like they save the high end player mem for the cup only. Which is nice in a sense, but they have other high end releases that need the attention of bigger cards.

I don't think they would "run out" of GU jerseys. A deal is probably in place with Meigray/NHL to supply them with jerseys for their needs. Another reason why Players wear so many jerseys per game/season.

After watching a ton of breaks, I can't justify buying any Ultimate either. To me it looks like the ugly offspring of Contours crossbred with Fleer. Upper Deck needs to cut at least 1/3 of these products right out of the market. IMO there is just too many releases.

You know, if UD dropped prices to where you could get SPA for $100, Ultimate for $125, SPx & SPGU for $50 (all in Cdn) then I think that might soften the butt hurt going on. Maybe have UD Black for $150..etc..etc.. I know, it is dreaming on my part but if UD wants to move product it's time to start the red tag sale.

Quality control I can't understand. If I spend $50 on something I don't expect perfection but I still hope for it. IF I SPEND $300 on 1 box, I expect as close to perfection as possible. I mean, how hard is it to have your cutting & centering equipment run 100%. Anybody know how to sharpen a blade? Anybody? UD fails here so badly but they don't seem to want to spend the effort to fix it. Incompetence over and over.

Sorry, really got off topic here.

This year, UD sells stuff with the rookie crop. In a season with bad rookies, they'll push more veteran content.

Does someone have cold hard numbers about UD products that which ones are relatively high end and haven't sold out? Obviously this new Ultimate is not sold out yet, because it is so new, but that's still the number people needs to look at.

The fact is that if UD can sell a pile of poo for $5K per pile and sell out that one too, you really can't blame UD. They sell what they want to sell. If people buy, the value-for-price ratio is good enough.

Agreed. What reason do they have to change anything when all they're products are selling out? If anything they'll just create more supply because everything is gone!?!?! Funny how it all works

The one to blame here is NHL. They - like many collectors - wanted a monopoly, this is a schoolbook example of what monopoly is.

If you (who ever reads this) were one of those people who wanted a monopoly (that is, Panini to lose their license and Leaf not to get one), shut up and begin to shovel that soup you created to your mouth.

Summing up this all: If Ultimate is selling well, it is a good enough product.

Did one group break, hit three cards and won't be touching it again.

Maybe will buy some at $100 a box next year

Another water down product. Too many different variations with auto, jersey and jersey auto cards in this product. As other have stated, you get a lot of no name rookies. Veteran hits are spread too thin. Won't be buying a box until the price drops.

Normally when a new product comes out, I rush home to look at the SnT threads then rush back to the LCS to bust my own wax.... Now since I got "iced" by the UD Ice case I bought I haven't even opened anything else.

I actually "cashed" in my Panini redemptions for replacements before they run out of hockey cards and skipped all UD products since Ice.

I wouldn't be surprised if the hottest part of the UD Cup release is who can say "I want Edmonton" in the group breaks faster.

I'm waiting for UD to include a tube of KY or half a sandwich with their "high end" products the way we all keep taking it...

If it wasn't for Case/Box breaking, even with the McDavid factor, most of the stuff would be sitting on the shelf or getting discounted at the price point that it's being released at,why do you think UD are giving the Breakers all the promo gear to try to push the stuff out.
