using PSA for vintage and BSG for current

The PSA Registry has a lot to do with it, I think.

Also, BGS 9.5<PSA 10< BGS 10 < BGS 10 Black, so I think that people feel the odds are better for BGS 10 on modern cards, whereas vintage cards it would be easier to get a PSA 10.

One thing I have noticed recently though is wildly inconsistent grading from PSA on Vintage from my point of view. I know it is hard to judge condition with a picture vs having it in your hand, but I notice that they seem to be a lot more lenient on centering than BGS.

It would be nice to see digital grading being incorporated into the business, as far as grading goes you can only be so consistent with the human eye, you will always have variation and inconsistencies with human error, but each company does the best with what they have I think

A friend of mine, as far as hockey cards goes, likes to use the "Crosby-era" as a good starting point for his BGS submissions for many of the reasons Rob mentioned, and then PSA for pre 2005-06.

Saw somewhere `Thats so a 1990 statement` and kind of agree.

I think its depends on your card and what you willing to pay to have it grade. From what i observe recently , BGS is tougher on centering then PSA. If your card value once grade is between 500-1999 its in the 50$-65$ per card with PSA. There is multiple level and the more the cards worth the more expensive its gets. BGS you pay the same price wheter the card is 1$ or 100,000$

I have a Optic Holo The rookies Zion incoming and a Coby White Optic Black Velocity , both are dead centered , value if gem is 500$+. No way im paying 65$ per card , there going to BGS plus might have a shot at a bigger payday if any hits a 10.

I have a bunch of low end bkb rc`s from this year , centering is lenient on some they will go the bulk route (9$) to PSA.

Beckett does not take into account technology at the time and focuses only on condition relative to present day standards. For example, the OPC rough cut. Bennett will grade down based on poor edges. PSA would not.

So you could have a perfectly preserved OPC card from 1975 with perfect centering an Beckett would still give it a Bad grade.

Beckett is favored for modern the potential Beckett 10 and Black grades. Also the subgrades.

I would say that PSA is becoming more popular for modern. That trend will continue as Beckett had eliminated non guaranteed service and has gotten way more expensive. A lot of lower end young guns are not worth graded at the $20 it takes for BGS, but PSA bulk is only $9.

I personally like the PSA holder better than the bulky BGS holder. Not sure if other collectors feel the same and if it has something that makes PSA more desirable...
