Valuable insert sets from the 90's

trip down memory lane shall we...
'95 UD Electric Ice Gold (NNO)
at one per retail box (also had Hot Packs, loved that concept) these are tough buggers for player collectors to find now, given the size of the set.

'98 Donruss Elite Master Craftsmen (#/100)
parallel of the insert set features holofoil finish.stunning cards in person and again tough to find certain players from a 30 card set.
scan0006.jpg

'98 Donruss Elite Status (#/100)
parallel of the base card set which is die cut and holofoil like the Master Craftsmen.150 card set=player collectors nightmare.Panini tried to capture the allure of these this past year, but fell way short of the originals.

'98 Upper Deck Game Dated Moments (NNO)
confusion abound when these were released, actually there are still some who list the regular base cards as these rare parallels.they are distinguished by the heavy foiled embossed front, think UD Freeze Frame inserts with a bit more rainbow effect.no discernable markings on the back only leads to more confusement.to say these were case hits were an understatement.more along the lines of one per 2-3 cases.

'98 Upper Deck The Specialists Level 2 (#/100)
Series 1 insert that's die cut with rounded top edge and bronze foil instead of the standard silver, these were machine numbered on back /100,with the numbering in a white box.they are also two layered with the top foil and bottom linen type cardboard.again,a bit less common than case hits.

'98 Upper Deck Sixth Sense Wizards
Series 2 insert with same die cut as the SPecialists level 2 cards with a holographic foil front.serial numbered the same as the Specialsts on back with machine numbering in a white box.important to note that there are some of this set that are not numbered on back that have surfaced which are either left over replacement stock or forgeries.

'99 UD SPX Finite Spectrum Marquee Performers (#/25)
the Spectrum parallels from this set are very eye appealing, much like Topps trademarked Refractors.all the cards in the base set are serial numbered on back with a holofoil parallel counterpart in the Spectrum set.the toughest to find are the Marquee Performers (behind the Living Legends 1/1's)which are machine serial numbered in white box on back.featuring the leagues top players at the time, the 20 cards in this set feature 17 HOF players with Kariya,Samsonov & Leclair as runner ups.don't think i've seen any of these pop up in recent years.

'99 UD3 Three Star Spotlight Embossed Die Cut (#/100)
by far the most confusing set ever produced, next to the '98 Leaf Fractal Matrix set, this product was barely ripped back in the day.there were multiple levels of holofoil, foils, die cuts, etc that many of the novel collectors were just turned off to the product on the whole.which in turn makes for very hard to find cards now.the Three Star Spotlights were 1 per box in the standard embossed non die cut version.the die cut embossed were case hits and are machine numbered on back in copper foil, like the UD Quantum parallels from the flagship realease.the only tougher cards in the set were the New Era Rainbows die cuts that were numbered to 50.however,given the rookie class of that year(Morozov anyone?),the Three Star Spotlights were the exception to foothold any future value.

'00 Ultimate Victory Parallel (#/100)
for the life of me i can't remember what the official name was for these when they were released.there was a striped foil board parallel that fell 1:7 packs and then there were these which were essentially 1 per box.great looking foil board and sequentially numbered on the bottom front.primarily thought of as a "kids" set,the Victory took an adult turn and released an all metallic base set with some outstanding inserts which were mostly holofoil.at $2 per pack this was a great product that i'm sure UD took a bath on despite being extremely popular.the cost of producing such a well done set at that price point ensured it would be a one and done deal.

'00 UD Ovation Standing Ovation (#/50)
these were the toughest of the tough in '00.i swear i opened cases of hobby boxes and hit nary a one.when it hit retail however the box blasters at local Wal Marts,Targets and Toys R Us' seemed to have all the case hit parallels of these at a one per box clip!had about 20 at one time, all from retail boxes.traded a bunch off but still have some key players in the pc.these are foil board fronted with foil lettering and UD logo.the back has machine numbering in the "dot" type that was used on the Quantums from the UD insert parallels.ask any player collectors if they have these and 9/10 will say they've never seen a copy.

I sold these awhile ago but they were pretty darn hard to find in good condition due to glue peeling off parts of the card.

97-98 Pinnacle Totally Certified Mirror Platinums /25 was ridiculosuly expensive already when the arrived into the market and I was trying to get the one with Jim Carey but +$300 (or was it $400? it was soo long time ago) was too much for me, the Gold ones was also quite expensive.

Those was ineed insanely stuning looking cards but the prices....

98-99 SPA Sign of the Times Gold Autograph set.....most of the low numbered cards are numbered to the players jersey number...hard to find and your guess is as good as mine as to pricing.

Don't know how I forgot these two sets...

My friend pulled a Kariya LSF from a case of Series 1 back in the day (you know the days when you can open a case at 12:30 on a Saturday and you could make your money back on the base cards and inserts within 24 hours) and sold it a show here in Colorado for $500.00 on the spot.

He was a bit disappointed because he didn't hit a jersey.

I love those cards but for some reason they do not get the same love as the Starquest Gold cards.
