I Was Just A Little Curious As To How Many Folks Out There Purchased Or Traded For A Varlamov Rc With The Inflated Prices After His Preformance This Evening, And How Much Confidence There Is In His Bounce Back For Next Year, And Thus His Hobby Love. I For One Stayed Away, Cam Ward Only Happens Once In Twnety Years, For Example, 1986 Some Habs Keeper By The Name Of Roy I Think, Beat The Flames. 2006 Ward Beat The Oilers, So I Htink In 2026 If There Is A Rookie Goalie Who Rocks The Playoffs In His First Year, Snap Up Those Cards. Wish I Went For Those Ward Rc's.

Let's not write this kid off just yet, it is only one game. A crucial game mind you but the pressure associated with a game 7 is phenominal. I hope he comes out of the gate on fire next season and builds his confidence level. Good to see these type's of stories now and then, good for the game and the hobby.
Dan.

Cam Ward cards took off during his playoff run, but then came back to earth when the Hurricanes struggled the following year or two. Don't follow him enough to know if they have come up a bit with his decent playoff run this year.

He showed in this playoff (last game aside) that he very well could be ready to be the Caps # 1 'keeper. If that's the case, and the Caps opt to keep Neuvirth in the minors for a while, expect Varlamov's cards to continue to rise, since the Caps are likely going to keep getting better.

He played awesome in this series for the most part and I think that that experience will only help him be stronger next year. I am betting that he is a keeper.

Are you kidding me.
Your saying the kid wont bounce back.
Wake up and smell the maple nut crunch.

HE's 20 and is the best goalie the Caps have.
I like the kid and can you say GOODBYE JOSE THREE OR MORE.

He needs a Defence that can get it out of the zone.
I don't know what happened last night but I know my Caps will bounce back even harder next year.

Some of the best Saves from the Playoffs where made by him.
He will be back with force next year.

Remember this is the same kid that helped his team to the Super League championship at 19.

He will be back.. and I think his cards will only cool slightly as the Cup approaches..

UD would be smart to inject some life into the stagnant rookies class by having him as one of the Level 1 rookies

He's played well, but the defense in front of him is so overrated; Mike Green especially (sorry, Terry). The guy was a liability for most of the series.

Ehh Varlamov didn't show much of anything....He beat the Rangers, one of the most anemic offenses in the NHL, and got pounded by the Pens who are one of the better offenses in the NHL....At this point its still a toss up....He has a ton of upside though....Just like Theodore did when he first came into the league.....Don't forget Theodore won the Vezina and the Hart in his 2nd full season (50+ games) in the NHL......Now he is annointed Jose Three or more....

Capitalization on each and every word??? WOW! Not sure if I would feel worse about spending a little on a 20 year old goalie or if I wasted all that time hitting shift at the beginning of each word!! j/k... LOL.

I bought two Varlamov rookies for a combined $17 (Young Guns and Ice RC's). I don't feel bad about buying them nor do I feel this kid is not going to be something special...

Anyone who watched him play knows what kind of potential he has. Towards the beginning of the playoffs he was the sharpest goalie I have seen in some time.

I picked up his metal RC for 10 bucks at the flea market.

never picked up any of his cards but he's got the potential. only thing left to see is if he can stay consistent over the course of a season or his career. if it wasn't for him, the Rangers would've moved on past the Caps.

I don't generally jump on the hot rookie bandwagon. does anyone know how much longer Theodore is under contract with the Caps?

I'm sure Varlamov will do the same as Raycroft and Ward... If you have RC of him especially the YG, just put it on the bay.

I recently sold a YG for 25$ and traded a champs rc for a malkin mvp rc. I'm just holding on his ice rc that i pulled recently. I would have wait to sell the YG if the caps would have beat the pens, but with the caps elimination i think the varlamov YG wont g this high again.

If your looking for upside, don't invest in goalies... this is the best way to go bankrupt.

BTW sorry for my english... im french haha :P

How true!

Yes, he has potential. So did Jim Carey and Dan Blackburn. He might go on to great things, or he could be in the minors next year. I sure wouldn't spend much on him right now.

And I take it further and say don't invest in rookie cards during the year of release. In almost all instances, you can buy for less the following season. And even less the following year. The rare exceptions are generational players...and Varlamov isn't one of them.
