Verified Trader,
And why would you see any? Isn't this thread meant for personal references... it's a "What's your opinion" Thread.
Sure it's a thread for opinions, but you and other people are trying to make statements of fact.
it doesn't present anything the follows the traditional format of being a sports card.
It fits the exact mold of every sports card that features an embedded object -- such as a jersey piece, or a cut autograph.
The entire thing is screen
As stated by Gomaz, this is not true.
based around a device used as a marketing tool at retail stores around the world.
All sports cards are a marketing tool, so I do not think this furthers the argument.
Why it is one?
But that's not the right question to ask. UD and Panini are releasing these as parts of sports card releases -- the onus is on the user to define why it isn't a card, when it meets virtually every criteria for being a card.
Hobby is driven by money, I get that. My point is make something that means something, not a product that puts unnecessary funds to produce something that isn't needed.
Every sports card that features anything more than plain printing on plain card stock requires "unnecessary funds to produce something that isn't needed."
lol that tiny screen is a joke atm.
Ultimately, I think that this is the crux of your argument. Video screens in cards do not conform to your stagnant view of the sports card hobby. Therefore, you have decided that it's a marketing gimmick and a joke. I have no idea if video cards will have a lengthy lifespan in the hobby -- plenty of innovations have gone on to success (jersey cards, serial numbering) and plenty more have died out (Diamond Vision, Crash the Game). The longevity of the concept has no bearing on this discussion.
