Vokoun to the Capitals!!

He probably took a lot less to go to a contender, makes me say this,"Washington will win the cup in 2012".

Because of Bryzgalov's deal, I think Vokoun was asking too much at first and scared a lot of teams off. When teams that were looking for goalies went with cheaper routes, demand for a #1 goalie dropped like crazy. So he signs a 1 year deal cheap with a contender so that it could boost his stats/value next year when he's a UFA again.

washington wins this UFA session. sure they overpaid for some guys but made it all back righ there.

Breaking news: Thomas Vokoun signs one year deal with the Washington Capitals. Great move for the Caps in my opinion, a good veteran goalie was something they needed.

in the terms that he was figuring to be the #1 in Colorado but he was asking for too much and COL trading for Varlamov instead.
he was smart to only sign for one year. if he succeeds in WASH he will more than make up for it next summer.

how does a free agent get screwed? I mean he saw a few teams go other ways, and has evidently decieded to go another direction, I dont see this as him being "screwed". I can say I like the signing of course because its a steal, but I like the fact that he is an experienced veteran to help in Neuvirths development.

Now if you want to talk about a goalie getting screwed, call and ask Holtby how he feels right at this moment after the exhiliration of seeing a chance at making the big club yesterday, go right out the window today.

awkward move in my part trade 1 goalie to sign another one? now they have holtby neuvirth and vokoun? should we expect another goalie trade by caps soon?

Nothing wrong with this. They can keep the prospect they want, move the other for more assets and have a top notch starter. Watch Vokoun be cheaper than Bryzgalov too.

Vokouns one year deal is only worth alittle over 1 million so its a great deal for the Caps. I think Vokoun will have a great year, and he finally lands on a contending team, good for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was offered an extension at some point during the year, if he performs like I think he will. There younger goalies are kinda shaky.

The guy wants to win a Cup, look where he's been in his career so far, can't blame him. He was willing to take a low payday for a legit shot, I have a lot of respect for guys like him willing to take whatever a team can reasonably afford just so he can have a shot. And by taking that cheap contract it helps the team bring in more players to help the cause. Love it.

Hear hear. I was very disturbed when I saw the headline, but for $1.5M? That's awesome.

Im really happy for Vokoun. Finally he will have a shot on the Stanley Cup. In my opionion he could sign for lot more elsewhere, but he decided to take low money and a chance to fulfil his dream. I have lot of respect for such type of players. Only "bad" thing on this deal is that he can slow down the good start of the career of Michal Neuvirth. But lets see who the starter will be. If Vokoun plays bad it will be no problem to bury him with his 1,5 usd salary. Im also curious if there will be a NTC in his contract, so Washington cant trade him without his permission. Would make sense to me. No money but certainty that he will stay in a top team.

This is going to resemble the Flyers goalie situation from a year ago. As a Pens fan, I couldn't be happier. This has train wreck written all over it.
