The Detroit Redwings and the NY Rangers. I sat next to a scout from Detroit tonight at the Lightning vs. Rangers game. He was friendly and when we asked he admitted to being a scout for the Wings and was there to scout the Rangers. That was all we could get out of him. Could be something, could be nothing, but I thought it was interesting.

Not sure who the Rangers could be shopping that would help the Wings. Any ideas?
 
My theory....perhaps his plane wasn't leaving until tomorrow, or he was in town visiting his mother-and-law and desperately needed to get out of the house :)

Kidding aside, it likely means nothing as going to a different game every day or two is part of their job.
 
Scouts also report back player info that the teams use when planning their next game against them.
 
It could be for Dubinsky maybe. But like Newfie said he could just be there to scout the team and use the info from the game to plan for them
 
There are scouts from a few teams at any given NHL game. Some of them are there to look for possible trade targets, but most are just to watch an upcoming opponent to see if there is anything noticeable.
 
I wouldn't read anything into it unless it's an expiring contract. Wings honestly don't have the cap space to take on anyone else unless the contract is expiring. They have the space at the moment but when the injured players return someone would have to be released.

Scouts are always going to games to scout players and plays. They scout the coach and his style of play-changing just as much as the players.

That being said, Redden for Datsyuk is still on the table....:)
