Too many products year after year people are constantly looking for the newer stuff, just look at the price of other cards than the Cup this week you'll see some superb stuff go for dirt cheap!!!
 
yea nothing is rare these days, even look at shield cards. I remember five years ago a shield of an average player would still fetch $700+, now theres shields selling $350-$400.
 
Orr was in Group D, which had an insert ratio of 1:8. That's WAY too common for a player of Orr's calibre. On the plus side it's a nice looking card and very affordable for people who couldn't normally afford a hard-signed Orr auto.
 
It's just sad.
How can this continue? Thankfully i don't open products to flip, i just collect because i enjoy it.

Are we about to go through another revolution in the hobby like in the late 90's?
 
to back the BV never changes, you can buy a 50 dollar card on ebay with a bv of 120 and in trade the other guys wants full value, meh time to be patient on ebay. I am only starting to buy last years cup because the price's at auction are going to be way cheap, next year I will focus on this years.
 
doesnt matter, is just about supply and demand, when you produce the same card with the same player with same autograph over and over each and every year

prices are bound to go down

My thoughts exactly! A Crosby auto can easily fetch for $100 or less nowadays; sometimes an Ovie can be acquired for half that amount.

When I was doing the 09/10 Ultimate Signatures set, the Ovy was routinely going for $40-50.

Everything is oversaturated and I don't see a fix in sight.
 
brodeur's have regularly fallin in the 40-60 range now. that used to be an incredible steal. but they get the same guys signing in every set these days. there is far to much out there.

So what you're saying is, you want only the most elite collectors to get autographs of the all-time greatest players, because the guys with the most money are the only ones deserving of that kind of prize, right? I'm so glad that I collect for the love of hockey.

I own a couple of Orr autos, none of which came all that cheaply, but these days if I could get an Orr auto for one of my sons for a good price, I'd be glad to have that opportunity. For one, it wouldn't have been possible before. Also, I would be strengthening the hobby with new collectors that will appreciate the opportunity to own some great cards. Why all the uproar that you can actually afford nice cards?

Someday every single one of us will be dead and gone, and our cardboard and ink will be passed on to another generation to appreciate. Are we going to pass on the elitist attitude as well? Or leave our kids the message that being able to buy something great at a reasonable price somehow hurts the hobby because pricing is more important?

Enjoy it while you have it, and stop complaining that you can't make a buck off of everything under the sun. Go look through your favorite cards, ones that you are 110% sure you would never part with for any price, and then try to put a price on it. That will be the future priceless hanging-on-to-it-forever card that your kids will own years from now that in your eyes was the $40 steal of an Ovi auto you picked up today. I get where you guys are all coming from, I appreciate and understand it, but I don't like it. It makes collecting feel dirty. You can't water down a hobby that you love.

If the case-crackers can't get value out of their breaks, they stop breaking. If they stop breaking, less and less of those singles we all chase show up.
 
True, but there's a difference between "getting value" and the mass crack-fueled listings related to The Cup right now.
 
i've come to the conclusion that my decision to quit this hobby and sell of everything i had was one of the best decisions ive ever made after seeing prices like that the last 2 seasons.
