Wayne "Gretsky" jersey

Anyone remember the story behind this one?

I remember being at the Hall of Fame and seeing a Rangers jersey on display with the namebar bearing the misspelling "Gretsky".

Any help, much appreciated.

This was Wayne's first game with the rangers. Turns out the he was moved from LA so fast that he didn't have time to proof a jersey.... and the GRETSKY was used for a photo shoot / press conf. and the GRETKZY was used for the game.

Suffice to say, someone was fired, then beaten (just not by Wayne).

NYR had pretty much the whole summer to prepare too.

Gretzky's real name is "Gretsky"... Canadian border officials changed the name when Wayne's grandfather immigrated from the US to Canada, as he couldn't speak English very well being from eastern Europe. So technically that Gretsky jersey, if it existed, was the only one spelled RIGHT.
