Little worried about what looks like an easier game for the Lions on the road. Bruce and Simon I believe are expected to miss the game and I'm not sure if Angus Reid is going to be out as well and on D, K Mitchell is out as well.

Important game for the Riders to try to keep pace for second in the West, although eventually we will need some help given that Calgary has pretty much the same remaining schedule as we do. Here's hoping for another Winnipeg upset this week. Go Bombers!

Preview: Bombers, Stamps

Joey Elliott will get his second straight start on Saturday afternoon, as the Bombers look for two points against the Stampeders in an important duel at Canad Inns Stadium.

The Blue and Gold look like a team with renewed confidence entering Saturday’s meeting, the second of the season between these teams, fresh off a thrilling 27-22 win over the Alouettes in Montréal.

The result was surprising to many outside the Winnipeg locker room, especially for a team without Buck Pierce in the lineup going up against the East-leading Alouettes.

Elliott took care of business though, throwing for 335 yards and three touchdowns on 17-25 passing and giving the Bombers a consistent attack through the air. His career day earned him Offensive Player of the Week honours – but more importantly, it kept his team alive and well in the playoff hunt.

Suddenly, the Bombers have won two of three games, and now sit just two games out of a playoff spot behind the Eskimos, while just a game back of the third-place Ticats.

With Pierce ruled out for Saturday’s game, it’ll be up to Elliott to work his magic for a second straight week.

“It’s a good opportunity,” said Elliott. “I’m glad to be playing in front of the home fans, and to get another opportunity.”

Preview: Esks, Riders look to build on momentum

The Eskimos and Riders are set to clash for the third time this season on Saturday afternoon at Commonwealth Stadium, in a pivitol West Division battle with playoff implications.

Fresh off a 35-20 win over the Ticats last weekend that ended a five-game losing streak, the Esks suddenly have plenty of wind in their sails coming into an important Week 16 battle with the Riders.

Kerry Joseph threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns to get his first win since he played for the Argos, while Fred Stamps had his biggest performance of the season with 204 yards on nine catches and a game-sealing touchdown.

And suddenly, despite the frustration coming out of Edmonton over the month of September in which the club failed to record a single win, the Esks find themselves with a one-game lead in the playoff hunt and just two games behind the second-place Riders and Stamps.

The Esks are slowly starting to resemble more of the team that started the season out 5-3, and looked like it would challenge for the West Division crown – especially when it comes to the running game.

First place on the line as East rivals clash

The Argos and Alouettes meet for the third and final time on Sunday afternoon, as first place is on the line in Toronto.

Chad Kackert and Ricky Ray will not be in action for the Boatmen, who will be looking to bounce back from a 36-10 loss on home soil to the Riders a week ago.

With the season series tied at one apiece and the tiebreaker up for grabs, along with the fact that only two points separate the Als and Argos heading into the weekend, Sunday’s matchup becomes a focal point for each of these two teams.

Both the Argos and Als missed the opportunity last week at home against teams traveling from the West, as Montreal was stunned by the Bombers and the Argos couldn’t overcome injury woes in the loss to Saskatchewan.

But while Jarious Jackson was held to just 162 yards and a touchdown on 16-31 passing with an interception, and Gerald Riggs Jr. was held in check filling in for Kackert, the focus for the Argos this week will be on coming out ready to play at home – something head coach Scott Milanovich said, quite frankly, his team didn’t do last weekend.

“We’re not a perfect team,” he said Wednesday, unabashedly.
