I don't normally pull out fan mailbag posts and comment, but this one in the Yahoo MMA mailbox today was the first sports-based fan letter I've come across in 8 1/2 years (when a guy praised Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff for doing amazing things to WCW and how the company folded under conspiracy with no fault to either of them) that made me sit back and go "Seriously???? You actually believe what you wrote???" (I have to note again...sports based. Video game fanboy pissing matches are by far the worst, but anybody who addresses a letter to Dr. Light or any of the cast of Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball I'm sure has enough to deal with.)
Anyway, here's the letter...
I think it’s unfair that B.J. has to go through so many obstacles just to get his title shot with Georges St. Pierre. The UFC started a rivalry similar to Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran and I feel that we will never have our closure. In many eyes, B.J. won the first fight between them considering St. Pierre could only take B.J. down in order to avoid the onslaught from Penn but did nothing once on the ground. In the rematch, he came in weighing as a middleweight with Vaseline all over his body. He clearly cheated. Why is the UFC working so hard to keep B.J. away from St. Pierre knowing that this is the fight the fans want? We don’t want to see another Penn fight at lightweight, or St. Pierre fighting guys who are not in his category. Why can’t they give us two champions who are in their prime right now?
Danilo
This is so off the mark that it's got to be either BJ writing in with a fake name, or Danilo's a family member of Penn's. This isn't even close to Hagler/Duran. It's more like Minnesota Wild/Vancouver Canucks, where Minnesota (BJ Penn) thinks there's a deep rooted blood rivalry for the ages, while Vancouver (GSP) couldn't give less of a crap and kind of rolls with whatever punches are thrown lightheartedly.
I know it's just a stupid fan letter, but man...to me, this is delusion graduated far past anything you guys ever accuse Beckett of.
