How can a team play so poorly in a Stanley Cup Finals game? Ottawa shows up for the first period and falls asleep the rest of the way. It's totally unacceptable if you ask me. Not a single player had a good game. They better all take a good look in the mirror because this team won't be together next season. With quite a few free agents and the cap problems, this may be our last chance for a while. Glad I have this place to rant. Now I'm gonna call the Team 1200...

When your out matched by your opponent then its very difficult to have your players play well. The same thing happened to the Pens when they played the Sens this year. The Ducks outplayed them at the start of the 2nd. They just seemed to want it more. Sports is a game of momentum and once the Ducks stepped on the ice for the 2nd period they took it and ran.

They weren't outmatched, they were outWORKED. Big difference. This team can play with anyone in the league when they give 100%. It's seeing 2 periods like this that makes me sick. The only guy who wanted it tonight was Fisher

I think the Ducks are a better "team" in the sense of the word but the Sens are more talented as a group. Still, as this city has found out before you don't win it on talent alone you have to want to work at it like Frank alluded too.

I think the Ducks have a solild nucleus and great role players (Rob Niedermayer, Moen, Marchant, Pahlsson, O'Donnell, etc). I don't think the Sens have many real "role players" in terms of forwards.... The Ducks clearly have a shut down forward line they use... who do the Sens use?

I still think the Sens have a chance in this series but winning 3 straight is tough. One thing I've noticed over these playoffs is that Redden is on the ice for every.single. big goal against. What a bad pinch on the Penner goal. Defensively he's been brutal.

The Ducks 2nd line has really impressed me for such a young unit. Penner is big and nice hands, I didn't know Perry was this much of a pest and Getzlaf will be unreal... Shanahan/Bertuzzi in his prime-esque. They still have Bobby Ryan who could be better then all of them coming up next year.

Ern,
I agree with everything you've said except I'll have to defend Redden on the 3rd goal. If you see the replay, he was actually coming off the bench, it wasn't a pinch. Still he should have at the very least taken a hooking penalty to stop Penner from taking a shot at a wide open net.

I agree with you totally Frank - BRUTAL, nobody really seems to want it, I don't know what kind of a kick in the *** this team needs, I believe they can win, just don't think they care enough to do it.

Wow, I can't believe I left work early for this crap...what a mess this team is right now.
What the hell is going on with the Sens???

They got out play'd....All all throu this round,The Duck's have made it here before...And Lost!

There here again to finish what they could not the first time.

If the Duck's can do it so can the Sen's! They will get here again,And they will win!

There just not ready to win yet!

But let's not forget that there here now! 16 teams started and There's 14 team's that are at home watching this and wishing they could be there also...Many may not admit it ....but even if it ment loosing!

Just as long as they could have a shot!

I AM A SEN'S FAN...AND I'M STILL PROUD TO BE ONE!

They have made me Proud to be a fan and i thank them for getting this far!!

It also helps if you don't blow any momentum you manage to gain back. Sens tie it up in the last 2 minutes of the second period. Another late goal! Woohoo! But then Alfie has to go and get the Ducks all fired up again. Uggh.

I think it was more Anaheim playing poorly in the first, and then going back to their game the rest of the game. Ottawa lost the game last night when they couldn't score more than one in the first.

In the entire third, Ottawa didn't get one good quality scoring chance due to the Ducks' tight defensive system and SMART play.

Give credit where credit is due to the Ducks. Using a tennis analogy, Ottawa's errors aren't all unforced errors. The aggressive Ducks forecheck is making Ottawa play sloppy, and Ottawa's leaders and best players haven't showed the composure that Anaheim's have shown.

Anaheim's been the better team in this series and deserve to win. Ottawa and its fans should take pride in making it this far and being the Eastern champs but no one can say they deserve to win the Cup. They've been outmatched.

I don't think Ottawa needs to panic and there's no reason to break up the core. I wouldn't mind seeing Redden go in favor of a couple of cheaper D-men for depth (especially how Preissing could walk as a UFA). If after next season (when Spezza, Heatley, Redden, Fisher are FA's) they don't win, that's the time to retool.

Welcome to my (Red Wings) world!!!!!

Before you get reeeaaal upset with your team consider Rene's point!!
The Ducks are real - and they are very well coached in the sense that they know how to execute their game plan. They were horrible in the first period - and were the same team that has ramrodded through the playoffs after that.

They are big - they are strong - and they can control the puck.
I think what we are seeing is the ability of the Ducks to control the major line for Ottawa (Heatley/Spezza/Alfie) and then take their chances with the rest.
They are flat out deeper than Ottawa - which is in no way as deep as Detroit was. They have the ability to make you look bad - and they are doing it.

One last note - that was unbelievable what Alfresson did at the end of the second period. I am pretty sure you can expect him to be watching sideways a lot for the rest of the series!@!!

I never said I wasn't proud of what the Sens have accomplished so far. However, to not show up for 2 periods in a Cup Finals game is unacceptable, plain and simple. I know the Ducks are a great team but Ottawa can play a dominating type of game when they want to. They just seem to let the Ducks dictate the play. I am not satisfied with being second best, sorry. Oh, and neither should the Sens...

The Ducks seemeth me a more talented and disciplined version of the Flames - skilled, patient, tough, fast and - most importantly - can score. They have a road game, something the Flames (and the Sens it seems) are sorely lacking.

Still, these Finals just seem to lack a certain something. I just can't bring myself to get emotionally invested. I'm rooting for the Sens as the Canadian team...but only just.

Meh.

Alfredsson's brain fart gave Anaheim all they needed for a third period manhandling of the Sens in every aspect of the game. I cannot figure out for the life of me why he would do something so stupid. He just handed the Ducks all the motivation they needed to bury the Sens and they did it. If I'm Alfie I have my head on a swivel, especially if the score gets lopsided either way in game 5. You don't do something like that to the other teams captain and get away with it. Dumb move, just dumb.

Oh, Frank-o, relax dude, just relax. Calling those idiots at Team 1200 will only make it worse for you.

Just like the Senators had to lose (conf. final vs NJ in '03, vs. Buffalo in '06) before they could get over the hump, they have to realize that the Cup Final is so much bigger than a conference final - they're not there.

Just like Anaheim had to learn ('03 Cup Final), Ottawa has to learn too.

And with the cap (reportedly) going to $49 million next year, they might not have to blow the team apart - Muckler got us this far...

EDITED to add: Leafs fans have NO right to laugh/chuckle/whatever. Your team really stunk this year, and it'll be worse next year. At least you'll have a top-10 next year to mess up another prospect.

Yeah maybe we should ask Ottawa who to pick, I mean they did pick Daigle #1 overall once!! I know my team stinks, your team stunk before too.
