Anyone watch TSN last night and see the 3000 people at the Atlanta/Sens game? And then the NHL has the Audacity to Claim an attendence of 14000+. Anyone watching the game saw that the stands were literally empty. Even McGuire commmented on how embarrased he was for the players. Scott Taylor was also on the radio stating the owners have had enough now with Bettman and his expansion experiment. Phoenix as many of you know is running a 40 million yearly deficit and is said as per Scott Taylor to be folding at the end of the season. Plus the owner has filed for bankruptcy!! Hopefully the owners have had enough of Bettman's BS and have realized that for the NHL to be a viable league they need to go where the fan base exists (WINNIPEG, Quebec, Eastern Ontario etc.)

As much as many fans would like to see Winnipeg and Quebec back in the NHL, it just won't happen. There isn't enough corporate support those cities

I have a feeling we are going to see a restructuring fo the NHL as a whole eventually. The game itself cannot support the kind of salaries the players are receiving these days as evident by all the faltering franchises. The game will never be at the level of the NFL's and needs to be accessible to people who truly want it (WINNIPEG ETC.) Step one will be punting out Bettman and getting someone in who truly understands and cares about the game. Until that point comes (hopefully VERY VERY VERY Soon) this downspin will continue to occur where we are forcefeeding the people in the southern belt something they don't want. In terms of coporate support, we are talking NFL levels again which as we can see is not going to happen for the NHL, Even teams with corporate support are dying. Plus with the economic downswing as of late corporate support is slowly dying out as well.

I agree with you however the fact remains that the corporate suites and advertising dollars are what matter most to an NHL franchise. If the regular seats are full but the suites are empty, the team will be losing a bundle. That's where Winnipeg and Quebec stand right now. Would fans come out to see games? For sure but who's gonna shell out $100K a year for the suites? No one

No one???????You have no idea what you're talking about.
 
Certain teams just do not have the support. Lets not confuse the teams like Florida and Atlanta who have very little fan support with teams like Columbus and Carolina who have good support.

The ticket sales for the game could very well be 14000+ but that doesn't mean they were in attendance. That's the problem with some of the teams in non-hockey markets. Corporations buy up season tickets and suites, give the tickets away to clients, etc. who in turn choose not to go to the games.

Does the NHL "fudge" the attendance numbers themselves? That could also be a possibility

EXACTLY.....PURE BS

ANYONE who saw the game last night knows that not in a million years was there over 4000 people. The arena was basically empty. That NHL is so crooked its not even funny. Another fine example Mr. King of Spin Bettman

Doubtful.....free tickets and no one goes...not likely
The more likely scenario...no one is going and no one is buying tickets. Why would corporations buy up tickets if no one wants to see the games??? Something doesn't add up and I believe its the BS attendence figures that the NHL publishes, I would really love to see who these "corporations" are that are supposedly buying all these phantom tickets for these southern expansion teams that all happen to be broke all the sudden, Sounds like a Bettman cooking special again. " NO one is in the stands?? Well all the tickets were bought up by corporations" HAHAHAHAHAHA right
I tell you what if corporations bought tickets here the entire arena and parking lot would be full. Hell there would be no tickets for these corporations to buy because season ticket holders would have them all.

i know 1st hand that buisness buy several season tickets in different sports to give to clients and use them as a write off .. my company has done this with AHL and NHL as well as Arena football and the MLB

Exactly. I would love to see the "proof" that all those tickets were paid for. Honestly show me the proof. I don't believe for one second that those kind of tickets went unused if they were free. How does Pheonix have unreal attendence numbers YET still run a deficit of 40+ million per season???? hmmmmm makes you wonder doesn't it. Can't believe everything the NHL spoon feeds you.
