I have gotten to a point right now with my Ryan Garko collection where I have most of everything out there. I hope that the rare auto, 1/1 or plate will show up on the bay, but besides that, my only option is to wait for new product to come out, which for right now has me looking for a few pieces, but for the most part, even those are harder to find parallels.

Any of you serious player collectors...Steve, Murray/Curt, any other major player guys...what do you do when you just cant progress with your collection?

Thanks for any insight anyone might be able to offer!

So sell it. I never really had many big projects, just one other than my Peter Forsberg and Jim Thome collections. I sold my one and only side project and made a fair profit. I really have no attachment to my player collections either. I really just have people add in whatever they have to trades that I make and stay clear from having a high end collection anymore. Maybe if you just keep it to base, inserts, and low end items you will gain some more interest in seeing how far you can get. You could just ask traders to add a few base or inserts of this or that to deals that you make, sell your nicer items, and have lots of spare cash. I really find it more interesting building a collection now, with low standards, than what I did years ago asking for the best of the best. Back then I spent hard cash and had the best collection. Now I spend nothing and surprise myself with the constant growing of my player lots.

You can always help someone else. That's what I do - live vicariously through others' collections.

I would be so caught up with my collection that I'd be spending the summer just saving money for the next season, which I know isn't the case with Ryan "who?" Garko. Is he a rookie? Like Q said, you'll be surprised how much enjoyment can come from helping fellow collectors track down toughies, and even surprise them with the odd gift!
