Hey Guys! Can you please tell me what you know about Finest Grading. Can you please tell me how reliable they are and can you please tell me how they are viewed by the hobby? I just bought a card from Ebay with a FGS GEM MINT 10. I bought the card for the card and not the grade, but I was just curious if this grade is of any value or would I be better off ripping this baby out of the case as soon as it arrives! Any replies would be much appreciated. Thank You!

Thanks, Dwight

Probably worth unslabbing it if you're buying it for just the card. I have a Mike Cammalleri Young Guns FGS 10 card I got for a few bucks to see how accurate the rating was, and whether it would grade high if I had it graded by BGS or PSA. To their credit, the card did look like it was in gem condition, though I haven't actually taken a closer look (loupe and such) at it.

Thank you very much for the reply! This is too funny. The card I bought was also a Mike Cammalleri rookie card. What a coincidence! Thank you again.

Even funnier...I think we're bidding against each other for that BGS 9 Cammalleri up on eBay right now  -- Are you collecting him now?

I would avoid them. Although there is that slight chance the card will be gem. If a card reaches FSG's "best grade" I would assume it regrades a BGS 8 - 9. However it could be a BGS Gem. Although I would still avoid it personally lol.

Actually just one thing...I bought this FGS Young Guns card for less than 1/3rd of raw/ungraded Cammalleri YGs are going on eBay for right now (they're selling close to high book now for the first time in 3+ years...the last time they swung upward like this was when he tore up the AHL in 03-04)

At the price that I picked my graded one up at (which I think was no more than $2-3,) it's almost worth the risk for me to get the card in hand and see if it regrades higher. If nothing else, I can just crack the slab, sleeve it and stick it back in my PC with the others.

Byron's points are absolutely legit though Dwight. I'd trust his grading perspective more than most since his PC lives and dies by the gold BGS 9.5 tag.

If you can get a FSG slabbed card for cheaper than a RAW then by all means buy and crack. If you are trying to regrade it and achieve a high BGS grade, leave it alone. I guess its what you are going to need it for.

LoL! You are right! I think we are bidding against each other on the BGS 9. Small world! Don’t worry, my bid isn’t much higher then what the price is at right now. I kind of put a bid on the BGS 9 just to see how much higher the card would go for then the FGS I just purchased. If you really want the card I’ll stop bidding. Sorry about that, I didn’t realize it was you. Right now I am only collecting his rookie cards. Good luck and thanks for the replies guys!
