What format to use when selling on eBay?

Hey all,

I didn't have as much success as I had hoped with a recent auction of mine, whereas I had a high BIN with the option to submit a Best Offer, hoping to draw a reasonable offer. The only thing I got was an offer so low, that if I could have punched the buyer in the teeth for insulting me, I would have.

That being said, what would you recommend for selling a large lot on eBay. I'm not desperate to sell, but if I can get fair value for the lot, then I'll part with it. I'm not willing to risk giving it away, so a low opening bid, no reserve auction is NOT an option......

Ken...it's all of my Alex Tanguay parallels...no GU and auto's, just the base and insert card parallels.....

I'd say start it at the lowest price you'd be comfortable parting with them base and parallels are tricky buggers to see on ebay

If indeed your selling a large lot then don't waste your time expecting to get what you think its worth. The only people who buy large lots are dealers themselves and they are looking for good prices in order to resell. A collector is not going to buy a large lot of cards just for 1 or 2 cards they need. I say break it up and list them individaully...More work yes but your almost guarunteed a higher yield.

I'd sell them card by card. You only lose money on lots. I believe you have some 1/1's in there too don't you Rob? The Tanguay collectors that need 1 or 2 cards from your lot will not be interested at taking the whole thing at the price you'll require to sell them.

Rob; my experience has been that if you put BIN's about $10-15 with submit Best Offer over what you would accept, you will do quite well. Once in a while, you get more than you thought you would but at least people have an idea of your price range. If you set the BIN too high, it scares people off b/c they figure they are wasting their time with a significantly lower offer.

I completely understand as I am working through the same stuff with my Staal parallels. Here are a couple of things I have tried with some success:
- Group inserts together, for example put all Black Diamond parallels to gether and sell them as a complete "variation" set.
- wait for 10 cent listing day and list them for what you want. Next to no cost to you
- for the more rare inserts (ie /25 or less), monitor the Tanguay listings and try to determine those rare cards that haven't been listed for a while. Demand can sometimes be better
- last but not least....and I don't even know if this could get you in trouble but I don't think so (since I haven't been warned yet ) is "watch" those cards already listed on e-bay (which you have too) and wait for them to finish. Then list your card and e-mail the people on the bidding list of that recently ended auction, telling that you have just listed the very same card. If anyone knows of this being wrong, let me know via PM please
