What is a SP or SSP?

Even seen a lot of SP (short print) and SSP (severely short print) thrown around for cards that I think are made just as much as a normal card of the set. For example, it seems like of a set that is 1/1 insert and/or parallel set every single card is an SSP - even if the normal amount of a card printed for that set is 1. I have also seen SP and SSP thrown around for sets that consists of exactly one card.

So what makes a card SP or SSP?

SP and SSP are terms used relatively to a standard print run.

For example, suppose (for simplicity) that an autograph set is made, standard cards will have 100 copies. They may or may not be numbered.

An SP will have, say, 50% or 50 copies, of that run.

An SSP will have anywhere from 10% - 25% of the standard print run, or 10-25 copies.

That's how it seems to me too. Pretty similar to what are "Ebay 1/1"-cards.

How about Young Guns of modern era? They are part of the main sets, announced to be 1:4, so are they all SPs?

Young Guns haven't been SP'ed since 2000 and 2001. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Nash and a few others in those 2 sets were short printed

But they are part of the main set and printed clearly less than normal base cards. That's not SP?

Yes, relative to base cards Young Guns are SP, but then again everything is an SP relative to a base card.

I really think SPs should be compared only to the same set - like to the rest of the main set.
