What Was This Seller Thinking??

Hey everyone,

Had the day off today due to rain so I was lazy and stayed on my computer for alot of it. I was doing my daily eBay search and was checking out what Fowler Cup ARPs have been selling for. I stumbled across this listing. As the title says what was the seller thinking!?

The seller must not know much about hockey? The buyer is laughing all the way to the bank. They are selling for between $120 -$50. If the buyer gets a sweet patch he will make some mad cash! I couldnt believe this when I first saw it! I thought I would post it as Im sure everyone else will get a kick out of it!

But it says sold for $9.99. Might be wrong but I thought if a seller ends the auction, it doesn't state it was sold for $xx.xx amount. Just says it has ended.

Must be a mistake though, I looked at his other auctions and he has 1 card for a high price imo(even with the sick patch/low print run).

Price: xxx.xx is when the seller ends the auction. Sold For: xxx.xx is when the item has been sold. Either the seller made a mistake or has no idea what the card is worth. Odds are he will try and explain to the seller it was a mistake and cancel the transaction. Not very smart on the sellers part.

It sold for $9.99 as stated in the description

If the seller ended the auction early, it would say "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." If the auction ended in its due time (bid or no bid) or in a BIN/OBO it would say "Bidding has ended on this item."

That doesn't happen for Buy it Nows, which that card was.

My guess is he meant to list it as 99.99, but before he could correct someone had already hit the BIN.

If you look at his completed listings he has some other anomalies.

-Seguin Signature Patch and nice Caron ARP unsold at $9.99
-Kadri Honorable #'s and Shattenkirk Ultimate Auto Patch /25 sold at $9.99

So I don't think this was a one-off mistake. Either he was having the fire-sale of the century, or there's something going on outside eBay we don't know about.

He had Seguin Cup Patch listed at 129.99 which didn't sell then relisted it at 9.99 and ended the listing early.

He had a bunch of other Cup/Ultimate patches including a Kadri HON and a Shattenkirk Ultimate ARP /35 at 9.99 too both of which were listed prior for well over $100

Maybe these are all relisted items that he planned on starting at $9.99 and letting them run. Instead, he accidentally had them as a Fixed Price listing.

That way he doesn't have to pay fees on a $100 sale, only a $10 sale, but still gets feedback. For instance, I have a card that Quincy wants and he approaches me about it. I offer to list it on eBay for $10, but he has to pay me $100 for it. I get what I want, we both have a record of the card changing hands, and can leave feedback for each other, and I don't have to pay fees on a $100 sale. We all win...LOL.

And in this case, if the seller lists them at a fairly common value for sportscards (ie: $10), then flags won't be raised to the honchos at eBay.

Not true, Ebay hits you with fees for the total including shipping now, so he would still be paying fees on the total amount paid.

NEver really understood this. How can ebay charge you for a service they dont offer, which is the shipping end of things. How is that legal?

Exactly. The buyer sends a payment for $10 to cover the eBay transaction, and then a second payment for $90 to cover the remainder Or, they just mark the payment as "sent" and pay one payment offline for $100.
