What was your first project?

Just wondering what people's first collection was.

For me, when I was 7, my dad took me to my first Phillies game. At the door, they were giving out little Donruss booklets, Phillies-colored, that has maybe 10 4-pocket pages bound inside. The book came with about 50% of a team set, and my dad and I decided to track down the rest of the team set. I did so, and was then shocked in my teens to find out that there was a Mike Schmidt "All-time great" card late in the set I'dnever found. Best quarter I've ever spent (although this cup of coffee is pretty good). To this day, it's by far my least expensive collection, and by far my favorite..

spectrums were about 1 per box. i had about 10 of them from breaking. picked up the majority of the set after i started collecting again in 05-06. here's where i'm at now:

Started when my dad pulled a Certified Futures out of a pack of 95/96 Select. Still have that card and its one that will never be moved.

01-02 UD Mask jersey's, sticks, gloves & goalie pads. One card eluded me for quite some time but finally completed the set about 5 yrs ago.

My first was a few years after I got back into the hobby I put together the 03-04 UD Series One base set/young guns. That was fun and not too hard to finish.

2007-08 Black Diamond - it was fun and I like the shiny-ness of it all. Last card I needed was Sam Gagner. Got it in Kelowna while on summer vacation.

Held on to the full set for a couple years and then decided to break it up into spare parts. Seemed a good idea since Price stuff was going at a low and I swapped out the Kane & Toews for some good stuff.

To this day, I still love the design of those Topps cards with the blue stripe at the bottom.

02/03 Topps Chrome... built the majority of it from a lot of packs, a little bit from ebay... have the base, shorter printed rookies, the non-chrome updates, and the patrick roy insert set, no autos though (maybe i should hunt them down now!). i still remember the final card that eluded me for a while... Martin Gerber RC. tracked it down on ebay for a few bucks... still have the set.

the one that was the most expensive was the 04/05 Legendary AKA set. finished it, and later sold it to a member on here for a healthy chunk of change. i bought most of the singles on ebay, before they caught fire price-wise for a little while.

05-06 SP Game Used Awesome Authentics. I wanted something somewhat easy, common enough, affordable to my budget, and with Honkin' huge swatches.

The Yzerman here is still the only one I've seen.

99-00 HoloGrFx, SHINY!!! I was 11-12ish at the time, so shiny is all that mattered :beer:
I did the 60 card set and the insert sets: Gretzky GrFx, Pure Skill, and Impact Zone.

Panini stickers...I remember back in the day trying to get the whole book done in record time. Back then you could also order the stickers you needed to complete the set straight from Panini.

I miss those days. A lot.

The first project for hockey? I think my first was the league book.

You basically get a card for every player in the league and organize them based upon what team they play for. This went for quite a bit until in 1996 I started collecting teams. I ended up collecting Winnipeg Jets/Coyotes alumni up until a couple years ago... including doubles. I got up to this in 2008 I think which was about when I decided to rethink how I collect:
