What would you do...

This was a new one for me, so I'll ask for a bit of advice.

I had an ebay buyer make an offer on one of my items. His offer was significantly lower than recently ended auctions for the same card. I declined. He hits BIN. And within 15 minutes, I get a message - "That was an accident. I meant to send you a message, not click BIN. Please cancel this transaction."

I did. And then he left me feedback, saying that I had good communication and quickly fulfilled his request to cancel the transaction.

A day later, I get a note from him... "I left you positive feedback. Please do the same for me."

In my mind, the only feedback I'd leave would be negative (if I could). He clicked BIN and backed out. I understand mistakes - I gave him a mulligan instead of the NPB. Ebay says I can't leave 'contradictory' feedback, so I can't give him a positive and say "Backed out and never paid."

So my question...

A) Leave it alone and do nothing...

B) No feedback, but send him a response to explain...

C) Leave him 'contradictory' feedback...

D) Leave him feedback...

I'd pick A, Fred...he's just fishing for feedback and I don't like that. At the very most, I'd shoot him a message saying "Sorry, I would, but due to the transaction being cancelled, the eBay system doesn't let the seller leave feedback."

eBay needs to fix the issue where buyers that get a cancelled transaction can still leave feedback.

Does it not require two clicks in order to use the Buy it Now? I think it does....I would explain that there was nothing transactual to leave feedback in regard to since he "made a mistake"....then, reflecting upon the overall situation, add them to my blocked bidders based on general principle of stoooooupeddd.

I second this advice. No actual transaction, no actual feedback. He was not obligated to give you feedback for correcting his "mistake" and you should feel that you don't need to return the "favor."
A little research on his transactions may reveal that he might be fishing for feedback to boost his rating, which is a bunch of BS. In which Kev may be right and the guy should be ignored and blocked. Mistakes are one thing, feedback fishing are another.

I just had a similar situation, but in reverse. I sold a card that I didn't have (honest mistake on my part). As soon as I couldn't find the card I refunded the buyer, send him a message explaining things, and left him positive feedback. He said "mistakes happen and it's no big deal", but I never nor will I ever expect or ask for feedback. Truth be said, I didn't come through on my end of the deal, so if he were so inclined he could leave a negative and I would understand.

My advice is to just leave it alone.

Who knows, the guy might have sent the e-mail asking for positive feedback as a 'form letter'-type e-mail that he sends to everyone after leaving feedback. I'd briefly explain why you are not going to give him feedback and then leave it at that.

If he responds asking again, then I'd block him as a bidder.

I'm confused???????

I purchased a card from a seller - that he did not have.could not find and the seller canceled the auction through Ebay. The transaction did not show up in my feedback to be left notice. This was a store purchase - not auction - is there a difference????


In any event - he is full of crap.
There is not a 1 click purchase.
Ignore him and block him.

don't perpetuate the mistake. it might look shady on your part for having sold the card, received feedback, left feedback, and are now reselling your card. (that's assuming you're relisting your auction).

For some reason I'm thinking a neutral would be best. But for some reason Ebay considers Neutral feedback as being negative, and in turn, so does anyone who receives it.
