What's Going On With Prices For Cards?

Things are fine. The sky is not falling. If anyone is concerned about the falling prices of cards just check the prices on completed Johnny Gaudreau auctions over the past few months. The rare stuff is ridiculous.

It's not necessarily "won't ship outside the US", it's the sellers who will only ship using the Global Shipping Program, not realizing that it's an utter scam that is seriously (and I mean SERIOUSLY) hurting their business.

I was looking to buy an old UD Playmakers box on ebay. 14$ US. Cool price. But like 30$ US Shipping. 10$ would have been OK, but 30$, keep your box!

Case breaking or group breaks (although this seems to be more prevalent in baseball) means that more cards are available that maybe weren't in the past. I'm talking about lower numbered cards, SP's, etc. Prices reflect that. I also feel like we've reached a point where there are just too many options. People are more selective in what they want because honestly both Panini and UD pump out so much crap that it all looks similar anymore year to year.

Group breaking is the big reason card values are down. Too many cards being flipped.

Johnny Gaudreau is the "flavour of the week" that has been mentioned. There are way too many cards being produced for the number of collectors that are out there. Prices are "falling" because demand is way low. While Johnny will sell well now, when next year's rookie crop comes out, his prices will drop because the next flavour of the week will have made an appearance. Add of course more Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux (and so on) autos that will sell well but help to drive down the price of others.

Card companies are also taking the value out of their own products by raising the prices artificially. I know three SUPER high end collectors that have walked because of the *** kicking they got from The Cup. Those came out priced $500 higher per case than in previous years. That's $500 less you'll get out of a case that collectors felt. Something has to give...
