Been seeing some crazy prices for the signed lettermarks on ebay lately and I know alot of you guys collect them. Just wondering what everyone sees in them? Personally I think they are ugly and the autos look lousy. Is it because they are a little different from other things being done?

All you lettermark collectors, don't tear me apart, just curious, that's all:) :) :) :)

I think the allure is the possibility of spelling out their faviorate players name! With so many collectors wanting that one particular card (letter) to finish off the name, the prices are being driven up.. Plus yah they are unique- I find myself wanting to pick up a random player just to have it. Unfortunately and probably fortunately none of my guys are in the letter marks... But thats just what I think

I bought a bunch for resale and they are brutal! The signature's are barely legible. Just squibbles on fabric. They do look good from afar but up close they look odd. Definitely not worth their price in my opinion.

As you mentioned its just something new that people are going crazy over. They're not really that special.

Actually the cards look great in person! All my Berniers are signed in silver and the scans dont do them justice, the autos are much nicer in person. I think it's a very cool set as it is unique and if you are lucky enough to have a player in the set, it is fun to put together! It's just something different than another auto. on a regular cardboard issue and they are hardsigned!

I think this goes both ways. The card with a single layer of material (Kings, Sharks, Sabres, Flyers) seem to have great looking sigs. Multiple layers of material (Pens, Bruins, Hurricanes) have some nasty, and I mean nasty looking graphs. That said, I have seen some nice Orr's while most of the Crosby's look brutal.

Each to their own I suppose. I still think the baseball versions are much better.

And as for auto quality...I guess it depends on the players. My Hextalls look absolutely amazing. He's got a clean auto and you can tell he took the time to sign each one carefully. My Crosby on the other hand looks kind of rushed...and not so nice.

with the tons of stuff Crosby is signing since a couple years, we can understand why his autographes are rushed.

Was Gretzky in the set, and if he was, was it in the Oilers colors?

That's a very good point. The ones I have you can barely read the signature as the player is signing over layers of material. Just some silver squiggles. It's pretty hard to sign your name on a bumpy surface!

Before I ever got one Iginla I thought these things were lame but after getting my first one in hand, I fell in love with them. Helps that the Iginla's are multi-layered that I think that makes them look way better than the single colored letters.

Plus like Vegas said, it's something new and unique which makes them something everyone wants.
