What's the next big thing?

I would like to see UD do a proper "The Mask" set more like BTP has been
Only Goalies in the set no players.
And bring back the physical masks Those were great would love some current guys masks on the shelf!
Not a new idea just wishful thinking here

I miss BTP already, and though not a huge fan of UD it would be nice to see them do something with it since they have the license. I thought ITG did a GREAT job on the BTP sets even without a license so I think if UD wanted to they could make something pretty outstanding that people would LOVE!

I would love to see a special print run for guys that have great games...jersey pieces for games they have 3+ Assists, patch pieces for games with hat tricks or better, jersey/patch for games where points of at least 4 pts with at least a goal or assist. Game date them, make them redemptions, short produce them with their accomplishments.

Goalies would be for shut-outs, with parallels if they get player of the month or milestones.

All would be photos of that game that they got the accomplishments in.

Always thought it would be cool to create a "rolling" set like that as the season progresses.

I think UD could do that with the E-cards easier...or, I don't really know, the idea is nice but how do you really produce the product?

I've mentioned this before and actually have inquired about this to a UD rep, but making something like the Mini-Masks from Mask Collection again would be too hard as they are all considered "art work" from the various artists that design and paint them, and they wouldn't be able to get the necessary approvals to make replica masks now a days. Sucks for sure as I agree some of the current ones would be really, really cool to have.

Reduced hits, increased production, long odds on hitting a specific card and people falling all over themselves to open it.

Just kidding *cough*SP Authentic*cough*...

I'd like to see cards that have pieces of mem that were used in the same game as the picture on the card. Photo-match sort of thing. Heck even call the set "Photo-Matched".

If the player would also add an inscription related to something significant that happened in that game, that would be pretty cool. Call it "Photo Matched Inscriptions". Like "First NHL goal" or "First Hat Trick" or "First NHL Game" or even "Game Winning Goal" or "25th Career shutout"...whatever, could be a million different things.

Jeremy - awesome ideas! Like any genius idea, it's super obvious after it's been stated.

I hope we keep this post going, would be interesting to see if one of these ideas shows up in a new set! I think something along these lines as "Authentic Moments Memorabilia" of "Game Dated Moments Memorabilia" would be pretty neat. Imagine also if you went to said game where said accomplishment took place? You'd be all over that card!

UD did a redemption program in 2002 Authentics football, in which collectors could actually pull redemption cards for signed UD memorabilia. I was "lucky" enough back then when I collected football to pull a redemption for a Ron Dayne Wilson NFL football. I would LOVE for UD to revisit that concept in hockey. Most of us are not able to afford a Gretzky UDA Oilers jersey, or a dual 16X20 of McDavid/WG. UD could possibly even cross-promote sports (since you can pull Tribute cards in CUP of athletes not related to hockey.) Even have GAME-USED signed memorabilia that can be redeemed. Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Michael Jordan...etc

I'm well aware that something like this was inserted in Upper Deck's Master Collection / All-Time Greats (or whatever it's called) in which you could redeem a card for a full game used item(s)...as I saw one lucky collector pull a redemption card for Scott Niedermayer's full equipment.

Something else I think would be cool, if the players were generous enough to get on board is to have a "Golden Ticket" (a la Willy Wonka) in which 5 lucky collectors could do something related to hockey & Upper Deck, completely comped by UD. Just spitballing some ideas, but they could be:

1.) You & a guest get to go to NHL Rookie Shoot

2.) You & a guest get to go to NHL Winter Classic / All-Star Game / SC Final

3.) You & a guest can "Spend a day with a player" & take in a game (probably limited to UD Exclusive athletes)

Just things like that. If UD wants to bring us closer to the game...there's some ideas.

Upper Deck has done this in the past at least in basketball. I know because I won a trip to the NBA All Star weekend in 2008 in New Orleans.

UD did it right and one of the highlights of my card collecting for sure.

I don't know exactly with which products, how, etc. but I think programs similar to the online bounty in SPA could be interesting down the road. I think it would be key to introduce elements that let collectors without the resources of deeper pocketed peers be involved in some way. For a period of time it definitely has created added value for those breaking and gives collectors/traders/buyers something to chase.

As much as I would love to see some of the other suggestions come to fruition, I can't see companies with checkered pasts with respect to authentication and QC suddenly take up the challenge to offering up a set where the provenance of the memorabilia is fully transparent.

I really miss the way ITG listed game used info on the back. To not list whether leather is glove or pad, to just say "the game used memorabilia is guaranteed" is pretty flimsy. Leaves a lot of doubt in my opinion.
